I find this to be an exceptionally beautiful, straight-forward patchouli. Nothing to fault it on. It last forever, has a slight warmth to it... even a bit of that perceived "heat" that I get from a few of these private-line editions (especially Leather Oud), and the whole ride stay sophisticated and luxurious without ever going head-shop.
Only because it is somewhat lacking in other character, it is not my favorite for the note, but Patchouli Imperiale is certainly the safest and most comforting pachouli-based scent I use. (I am comparing it with the vibrant, summery Noir Patchouli (HdParfum), the peppery spice-ladden Patchouli Intense / Pachouli pour Homme (PdNicolai), and the rooty, earthy sweetness of Borneo 1834 (Lutens). There is supposedly a coffee note in here which was the main attractor. Warmth and coziness I get, but java? Nope. Might be better if they amped that up a bit. Still, no regrets - a very flexible and attractive scent.
