The Different Company Oud Shamash is a creation of Bertrand Duchaufour that displays a rich tapestry of scented nuances that are finely tuned into a technicolor incense oud masterpiece. At first sniff I recognize the similarity to Jubilation XXV by Amouage, which Mr. Duchaufour also authored. Add Laotian Oud to Amouage JXXV and you might have an approximation of Oud Shamash, but in reality it is more complicated than that. The years of experience in creating these multi layered fragrances is evident in Shamash.
The fragrance is rich and round with little bits of everything nice and wonderful in this kind perfume. The most amazing quality of this scent is how rich and full it feels. You get a feeling of how huge the universe is and time seems to stand still when you inhale Oud Shamash. You've got a boozy rose punch, incense wood notes, deep spice blend, patchouli and leather seriousness, a bit of swirling Laotian Oud for depth, then sweetness and warmth and the end of the fragrant journey. The stated notes include: saffron, cinnamon, pink pepper, davana, rum, rose, nagarmotha, oudh, ciste absolute, sandalwood, ambergris, woods, patchouli, leather notes, white musk, vanilla and tolu. The fragrance smells robust, festive, energetic and alive. I like it. rating: 5 / 5.
