Have any of you tried Rogue by Beverly Hills Polo Club? I've been seeing this cheapie recently popping up in TJMaxx and Marshalls, and it's a definite powerhouse. This is so 80s in style that I'd call it outdated, if I didn't like it so much. I think this is a recent release, but you'd never know it from the smell. This easily could have come out in 1981. This juice makes Drakkar Noir smell modern.
Basically this is a somewhat sweeter, more leathery take on Quorum. It's a big tobacco, leather and moss bomb. It literally smells to me like a bunch of cigarette butts blended with loud green oakmoss and a ton of leather. This is open-shirt, medallion wearing macho man stuff. You cannot wear this discreetly, even if you apply it lightly. Even in small doses, it's brash and crude. This a perfect fragrance for disco freaks, porn stars, leg breakers, bookies, etc.. I wore this a few days ago to work with a suit and tie, and I felt a bit ridiculous, as if the smell didn't suit the occasion. It's just too in-your-face for work, even for me. This is a great power scent for hanging out.
No, it's not the strongest frag I own, but on my skin it produces almost obnoxious sillage. Fans of Halston Z-14, Gianfranco Ferre For Him, Witness, Quorum, and the like, will love this. If you hate 80s frags, I guarantee this will have your stomach churning.
ebay here i come!
nothing! what is this going for in tj's?15 0r so? ive seen something from beverly hills polo club but never even paid attention. watch, it will be all gone by the time i get out to the city again.
I wouldn't worry about this stuff disappearing from the shelves. There's not a big audience for loud macho 80s colognes. They also sell it at CVS for $10 for a 1.7 oz. bottle, in the shelves where the cosmetics are (not in the fragrance cabinet). It sells at the Maxx for $12.99 for a 2.5 oz. bottle.
Strange, I just Googled the name, and this frag is nowhere to be found. I don't get it, because I've seen it in at least two TJ/Marshalls over the past week, and I saw it at three CVS stores recently, as late as yesterday. CVS also has a small tester of it, so you can try it out before you buy.
Just about a month ago, I bought a set at TJM that had a travel spray, a 100ml and a deodorant. The deo is inadequate, but the scent is a big strapping lad. They fade a little quickly for my taste, but they layer very well with Polo (or Classic Match), which ends those worries. I like it. I can't even find it in the BHPC catalogue, though...
Interestingly enough, only the travel spray has ROGUE on the label -- the big one doesn't, but they definitely contain the same scent.
Sounds like its right down my alley, I'll be looking for it next time a TJMaxx
I have it and I think it's a Polo knockoff with a touch of Z-14, but like Polo used to be: strong and loud. It has better longevity than the current rendering of Polo but it's not a Lapidus-level power. For about $7.99 it's a steal and defintely a throwback to the fragrances discussed in this forum.
Sounds great!! As expected I can't find this anywhere - even just Googling the name brings up this thread and nothing else! Any chance of a pic please shamu so we know what to look out for?
Sorry man, I can't even find a picture of this online. I'll have to take a picture of my own bottle myself and post it. I've even tried searching "JDL Enterprises", which is their distributor, online, and no luck. This frag is a complete mystery online, because it's not hard to find in stores here.
I never really thought of this as being like Polo, but now that Swanky mentioned it I can smell some similarity. However, Polo to me smells timeless and Rogue smells totally locked into a hairy chested Eighties night club vibe. Polo smells more aromatic and woody to me, while Rogue is much more leathery. Also, I wear Polo to work a lot, whereas Rogue for me is too brash for work, even in small doses.
weeeeeeeeird! mystery cologne.
