Private Notes allow you to make notes on any of the fragrances in the Basenotes Database. Maybe you want to add a link to a blog article about it; a note about who you swapped it with, or you want to jot down your reaction to trying the scent. You could write these on scraps of paper, but these are easily lost - Basenotes Private Notes allow you to write your notes on the Basenotes website, where you can retrieve them instantly. And, as the name suggests, they are private - meaning only you can read them
You can use Private Notes for whatever you like. Maybe you have just started dating someone new and want to keep a track of what fragrances you have worn with them and how they liked it. Here's an example of how it works.
You've just been on a date with Dan and wore Odeur 71. Dan really liked this and you want to make a note of this.
Firstly, locate the fragrance in the Basenotes directory. Then click the 'Edit Private Notes' tab at the top of the page.
Then type as much, or as little as you like. In this case, we want to make a note that you have worn this fragrance with Dan, and that Dan liked it, so you put 5 stars next to it.
When you have finished with your notes, scroll down to the bottom and press 'Submit Notes'.
You can see at a glimpse what you have written on the fragrance profile page.
If you go to your wardrobe page and click 'Show Private Notes', you will be presented with a list showing all of your private notes.
If you want to search through your notes to find a particular word, then enter it into the search box. For example, you may wish to find all of the fragrances you have described as 'floral'. In our case, we want to find all the fragrances that our date, Dan has smelt on us.
Basenotes will then display to you all your notes, which match your request.
You can use the Private Notes along with the search function in any way that is useful to you. Create lists of fragrances you've swapped, fragrances your mum likes, fragrances you stock in your store... the possibilties are endless. Have fun!
