Good artists create works that are pleasant. Great artists create works that are rewarding. For Musk Oud, the fifth and final scent in the ‘Arabian Nights’ collection, Kilian Hennessy joined forces with master perfumer Alberto Morillas, (creator of the much-praised Yves Saint Laurent M7), to devise an oud fragrance worthy of the challenge and complexity of its enigmatic, animalic central ingredient. The result is Musk Oud, an exotic oud fragrance that is simultaneously powerful yet elegant, complicated yet comfortable, edgy yet compellingly wearable.
Musk Oud opens with a fresh accord of citrus, cardamom and coriander, a bright burst of spice that warms the palette and eases into the complexities yet to come. It is followed with an explosion of luscious rose, enhanced with rum extract to achieve a liquorish sweetness. All the while, the star ingredient-- a sumptuous oud accord complimented by smoky incense and earthy patchouli-- develops step by step alongside a proprietary blend of captive Firmenich musks to bring the composition to a beautifully balanced apex. The combination is a magical trifecta: A dramatic, velvety, altogether sensual fragrance whose animalic power continues to unfold on the skin, leaving a diffusive, sexy allure that lingers all day.

Lemon, mandarin, cardamom, coriander, cypress, Bulgarian Rose, geranium, davana, Rum extract, frankincense, Oud accord, Musk accord, patchouli
The musk part scares me a little. Some of the recent oud perfumes have been ruined by the addition of synthetic musks that lay on a thick fog of unnatural fuzziness to the oud notes. I hope this composition doesn't suffer the same road to mediocrity. I know Alberto Morillas is a brilliant Firmenich perfumer of great fame and creativity, but with oud that mix of proprietary Firmenich musks may not translate into natural wonderment. Some of my favorite oud fragrances are from Killian: Pure Oud & Extreme Oud, so lets give this one a fair try. Thanks for the heads up!
Got a sample of Killian Musk Oud and I like it. It is not for everybody, in fact I believe most people won't like it due to its oddness, and also it is way too expensive. I think Alberto Morillas hit it out of the park on this one. Very nice fragrance. I smell citrus, cardamom, very dry light smoke musk, rose, agarwood. It is worth sampling. If you enjoy unusual Arabian style musks and/or oud you will probably like this one. If not, Musk Oud will not win you over.
