What is the best gardenia scent (or gardenia-blend scent)?
Check as many as you like or enjoy.
In the set, I'd have had to go with boutonniere, which smells pleasant, though it looses itself a bit as it goes. But the true gardenias are elsewhere, especially the no-holds-barred mushroomy Jardenia, and with a special mention to the dark tobacco floral Une voix noire.
Thank you, cacio! The Boutonniere is more of a vetiver once the gardenia leaves.
Of those you listed, l have tried the Chanel, the Lauder & the Elizabeth Taylor.
l voted for the Lauder, as to me it is all about the radiant, true gardenia rather than tuberose. lt is my absolute favourite gardenia.
l used to own the Taylor one, but sold it because l began to find it rather synthetic & cloying after a while.
l used up a mini of the Chanel, but it was a pretty & fleeting jasmine-tuberose blend; not gardenia at all.
l'd like to give a special mention to VC&A's Gardenia Petale; a soft & creamy interpretation, & Yves Rocher's discontinued Pur Desir de Gardenia, which, although not long-lasting, is probably the truest gardenia of the many l've tried.
Another special mention for the best one of them all - Mimi Gardenia
my issue about Gardenia Passion is more that it is not really a gardenia, it's too "pink", more like a tuberose-rose than a gardenia. I haven't tried it on skin properly, so I don't know how long it lasts, Goutal is supposed to be more on the light side in general.
If you are ever in Paris, you should try the exclusive Lutens (Une voix noire) and the JAR (Jardenia). They are very long lasting. They are very striking and complex, they are not plain gardenias, so I don't know if they are what you are looking for. Also, as said, I don't think they are sold anywhere outside of Paris (or New York city, at a markup).
