    a couple of questions...

So I am fairly new to wearing cologne. I have been following basenotes for a bit and reading up on what is popular and what is not. I decided to take a field trip in San Fransico and make the rounds of the big department stores. I figured I would search out the boutique stores after I learn more. The tripwas a blast!!

The thing about my trip was I liked almost everything I smelled. Sure there were a few that I would never consider wearing but I didn't think they were bad, just not to my taste. On that same way of thinking, I have sampled Aventus and smelled TDH, two of the more popular scents hereand they just don't do it for me. Anyway, is this normalto like most scents? For example, I got a whiff of:

    P. Egoiste

    Egoiste

    Gucci PH

    1 million

    Versace PH

    Tom Ford Noir

    Tom Ford Extreme

    Creed VIW

    Bulgari Black

    Anateus

    Apom

    Gucci (I think for men?)

    Colonia

    me likee them all...

But the ones that got me excited

    Habit Rouge

    Sahara Noir

    Endymion

    Straight to Heaven

    My other questions:

Does anyone know what version of Habit Rouge the SF Neiman Marcus has as a tester? EDT or EDP?I want to get the version I tested andonline prices are so much lower. Which leads to another question, is it better to pay the higher price and create a relationship with a sales person or buy online?

Lastly, for that future field trip to the boutiques, which are your 3 favorite ones in SF?

Any help would be appreciated and if I am covering ground that was covered elsewhere please forgive my trespasses...

If you've mainly followed the suggestions from the basenotes crowd I don't see why you wouldn't like most of what you sniffed:)! The noses here are very knowledgeable and I think you went through some nice fragrances. About buying online or in store though, it really depends, if you will be back numerous times a good relationship with a sales rep can be great, but if you will just be buying a couple fragrances then maybe the money saved online will be more worthwhile. Anyway, make sure you really love a scent before you buy. Goodluck!

Habit Rouge and Straight to Heaven are two very nice scents. It doesn't surprise me that they excited you.

Sahara Noir and Straight to Heaven are pretty great.

When you go more boutique, you might want to consider a few like-minded perfumes:

Sahara Noir (a good frankincense): CdG Avignon; CdG Kyoto; CdG 2Man; Heeley Cardinals; Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure; Javoy La Liturgie des Heures

Straight to Heaven: Fueguia 1833Ballena de la Pampa; Slumberhouse Sova

Hi, I recently purchased travel size of a FM scent but sadly it is making me nauseous.
Is there a place to go to sell unused/barely used fragrance?

If you like sahara noir then you might like the incense in Amouage Interlude.
