As the USAnians are in rapt discussion about capturing various Animal stinks domiciled upon their continent I'm seriously wondering what might be available in our Fair Isle.
One fragrance I have been working on ( kind of ) should somehow include the very male scent of the Fox who comes by daily to try and murder my chickens. I was going to settle for Civet or something but:
all this talk of which bits of goats hair to steep in Ethanol got me wondering:
Another chicken keeper who shoots foxes and hangs the tails about as a warning gave me one of the tails once. Sadly I chucked it away as it rotted into carrion but if before that point I had tinctured the hair from the arse end of the tail perhaps I could have captured true essence of Fox?
Before it just went rotten there was a certain animalistic funky but not un-pleasing odour about it.
I do realise this is straying a little too close to the dodgy end of perfumery but what may be possible with the remains of fresh road-kill?
I found this information which explains why I can smell the Fox so plainly after he's been snooping round the Hen run and maybe the feet would be enough:
Foxes also possess various scent glands on their tail, faces, foot pads and just inside their anus. They can either rub themselves or expel the contents of the glands against some objects. They also use their saliva to mark objects, particularly vegetation.
