One thing I know about my time at basenotes is it has made me magnitudes more aware of the application of scent by the hour and season, etc. The connotations of a carefully chosen scent.

So what I have done over the years is to build up several workhorse scents that I grind on day to day for the most part. At this moment, it is Mugler Cologne/Gendarme/Encre Noire: the clean/dirty combo. The other scents I have are for weekends, special occasions, exceptionally good days and the similar.

Those scents are the geek end of the spectrum for me. A sample of vetiver lightly roasted and stuck in a freezer or something. Iris with oud and cashmere wood. The crazy stuff you only inflict on people you know and random passerby.
