That is a shame, SoS, it's irritating when you don't get what you were expecting, but hey, as you said, if they're free...
I paid for the sample set last year and I'm actually revisiting them today, specifically the two you've missed out on. I've got City Love on my left wrist and City Oud on my right.
City Love is very much another rose/aoud combo, very good longevity and projection and the synthetic sweetness fades fairly quickly. The scent is not as good as Dior's Oud Ispahan, but it has less of a sour aoud note than Black Aoud, and I like that. I could see myself buying a bottle of this (due to the price) but I feel it wouldn't get as much play as OI.
City Oud opens with a big aoud note and some nice dryness; it's fairly unique in that it is aoud that doesn't rely on any other notes to support it (even though the patchouli and spice is noticeable in there, it differs from the endless rose/aouds and the Montale [aoud + x] where x is almost anything you care to name).
It's just a shame that it's not as strong or long-lasting as it should be. Maybe I need to apply more, those sample sprayers are pretty tame.
