Need some help finding my signature scent!

    Hi basenotes!

I've never worn cologne before, and am interested in finding one that I can wear every day; a "signature" scent, you could say.  As I'm sure you all know, it's overwhelming with all of the different ones out there!

Let me tell you a little bit about my personality.  I'm a 25 year old college student (majoring in engineering) in the northeastern US who is a little bit quiet, but definitely articulate.  I'm very easy going, smart, nice, reasonably attractive, and my favorite thing to do is being and doing things with friends.  I like to be thought of as somebody that's fun to be around.  Living in a state with a lot of woods and nature, I like the smell of woods and spice, though I'm not completely sure if this fits me as far as a cologne goes.  I'm a little bit old school, in that I listen to music from the classic rock era.  I enjoy being outside, and love landscape photography.  As far as sports go, my favorite is hockey followed by baseball and football.

What I'm looking for in a cologne is to attract women, and gain compliments from those around me (overall just smell nice).  I don't want anything super strong, but want something strong enough so that it's noticeable that I'm wearing it.  I'm also on a budget, and the most I'd like to spend is around $50 for 3.3oz (Amazon has a bunch of colognes that go for much more elsewhere but are in my budget there, so retail price does not necessarily matter).  I have Sephora, Macy's, and Ulta nearby that I can browse scents so there is a decent selection for sampling.

On a recent trip to these stores one of them I tried on and liked was Dolce & Gabanna's The One, as it had a nice woodsy scent, but was also somewhat sophisticated and not overpowering.

Do you think this type of cologne fits my personality?  Do you have any specific recommendations based on my personality?  If you have any questions to know more about my personality, I'd be happy to answer them.

    Thank you in advance!

    +1 Bleu de Chanel

I'll add L'occitane Eau de Baux and...

I think you might like Givenchy Play Intense as well.

Geir is in that price range plus a few bucks: Depends on if your preference for whitesnake can handle it lol. Loccitane has several in that range.

One that no one here mentions is Hugo dark blue. If a buddy of mine hadn't already claimed it as his signature is be wearing it.

Try a few of the better designer fragrances and go with the one you enjoy smelling. After all, you're the one who has to live with it all day, and more, if you wear something that really feels like you (you'll know it when you smell it), that will translate into attractive for others.

Some stuff I'd recommend checking out:

    Dior Homme
    Dior Fahrenheit
    Bleu de Chanel
    Cartier Declaration
    Bulgari Black
    Terre d'Hermes

Thank you so much for all of your replies!  This definitely gives me more ideas of some more to try out!

The Bleu De Chanel...Is there anywhere to buy this without having paying retail price?  I can't seem to find it on amazon or any other reputable fragrance website.

    Thanks!

If you order from Chanel.com, they will also send free samples for you to try and your cologne will come in a really nice black cloth drawstring bag. Plus you know that what you are getting is authentic.
