I went a-sniffing last week. Tried out some Summer recommedations, some classics and some new releases.

The first stop was the Lancome counter. I haven't had much luck with this house in the past. Tresor and Miracle weren't my cup of tea and the Miracle spin-offs were too much like other fragrances I'd tried. I decided to give O de Lancome, O Oui! and Poeme a try.

O de Lancome - a lovely, soft and refreshing citrus-based scent with a beautiful musky and feminine drydown. Fantastic for humid days.

Notes: Honeysuckle, Mandarin Orange, Bergamot, Lemon, Rosemary, Coriander, Basil, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Oakmoss and Vetiver.

O Oui! - a rather crisp and refreshing aquatic scent with an odd dusty drydown. The notes weren't all that well composed, a bit messy and jumbled in some parts.

Notes: Clementine, Nectarine, Water Hyacinth, Vodka, Petit Grain, Honeysuckle, Pineapple, Apple, Freesia, Pear, Rose, Amber, Musk, Water Lily and Cedar.

Poeme - I really enjoyed this one. A heavy, syrupy sweet white floral with a honey-like quality.

Notes: Black currant, Himalayan Poppy, Plum, Mandarin Orange, Peach, Bergamot, Datura, Mimose, Leather, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Vanilla, Tuberose, Rose, Tonka Bean, Amber, Vanilla, Musk and Cedar.

Other fragrances I tried...

Happy Heart by Clinique - a basic yet pretty fruity floral with a tendency to become soapy and watery. A very light Summery scent.

Notes: Mandarin Orange, Cassia, Cucumber, Carrot, Water Hyacinth and Sandalwood.

Aromatics Elixir by Clinique - can't seem to like this one. A rather bitter and herbaceous scent which unfortunately smelt a lot like nail polish remover to me.

Notes: Aldehydes, Coriander, Lemon Verbena, Bergamot, Geranium, Carnation, Tuberose, Orris Root, Jasmine, Rose, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Vetiver and Incense.

Eau Dynamisante by Clarins - a fresh, spicy and slightly woodsy fragrance with one of the best patchouli drydowns.

Notes: Orange, Coriander, Caraway, Lemon, Rosemary, Carnation, Cardamom and Patchouli.

L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci - a classic peachy floral with a distinctive spicy yet powdery drydown. (Reformulated version).

Notes: Carnation, Peach, Bergamot, Rose, Rosewood, Rosemary, Gardenia, Violet, Orchid, Clove, Orris Root, Jasmine, Amber, Musk, Benzoin, Oakmoss, Vetiver and Cedar.

Hugo Woman by Hugo Boss - crisp, fruity and only mildly floral it smells strongly of apple and tropical fruits.

Notes: Cyclamen, Black currant, Melon, Apple, Oakmoss, Papaya, Sandalwood, Benzoin, Vanilla and Cedar.

Pure Purple by Hugo Boss - a sweet and sugary fragrance that reminds me of gingerbread cookies. The leather note however, is not so great and seems out of place.

Notes: Nectarine, Cyclamen, Leather, Amber and Marzipan.

Envy by Gucci - a delicate and modern interpretation of a green floral. A nicely balanced composition.

Notes: Pineapple, Magnolia, Freesia, Peach, Bergamot, Iris, Jasmine, Hyacinth, Rose, Sandalwood, Musk, Oakmoss, Cedar.

Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani - an invigorating and slightly aquatic fragrance with delightful hints of banana, white florals and boozy vodka.

Notes: Peony, Pineapple, Vodka, Violet, Peach, Lemon, Banana Leaf, Lily, Jasmine, Hyacinth, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Amber, Musk, Cedar and Styrax.

And the new releases...

A Scent by Issey Miyake - an odd grassy and bitter scent which develops into a rather fresh lemon scent. This wasn't my cup of tea.

Notes: Lemon, Jasmine, Hyacinth, Cedar and Galbanum.

The Beat EDT by Burberry - an extremely light scent with a citrusy opening and a refined floral drydown.

Notes: Tea, Mandarin Orange and Iris.
