Are you referring to the Big Pony series? Polo Red is a new release set for next month at retailers, though it's now available from their website.
After wearing it a bit more, I may have mistaken amber for the patchouli-like effect. It's not a resinous, dirty amber, but more akin to that found in Halston Man Amber, minus the powder (sort of lighter, cleaner).
The top notes have a bright burst of cranberry which sort of mirrors the tartness of B*Men's rhubarb note. I wished it lasted longer, but it does linger for awhile. If I wave my hand or sniff it, I can still smell the tartness. I'm kind of liking this a bit more than B*Men, which I just never found myself warming up to too much.
A few weeks ago I received a Polo Red scent card inside an order from Ralph Lauren/Polo .com. I immediately thought "before you know it there will be a Polo fragrance for every color in the rainbow." Scent cards are generally a terrible way to interpret a fragrance but FWIW the fragrance reminded me of Xeryus Rouge. I had no idea that this fragrance was coming out or what the concept and notes were. I since looked it up and seems that it may share similarities to fragrances like Hot Water, Xeryus Rouge etc. Its been a long time since I owned BMen so can't compare. I am thinking of taking a chance and ordering online. It appears to be a fragrance that is hot spice, wood and some sweet amber which appeals to me.
Full wearing today. It does, to me, feel a bit like Double Black deep into it, but richer with a twang of fruit. The "red" notes have the same effect as the berry notes in Kiton Black, though they're not that similar at all - it's the "vibe" and overall feel that reminds me of Kiton Black (a sense of something bright amongst darker notes).
I am HIGHLY skeptical of ANY fragrance from Ralph Lauren. To me, everything smells cheap and rushed.
