What I'm Not Wearing, June 2013

It's not what it sounds like!

Over the course of a day I might wear one fragrance... but suddenly have the urge to smell more things, so I spray some other scents on cards and experience them like that. Usually I tell my friends about whatever I'm smelling that day, but why not share it here as well?

Today I'm wearing the overnight drydown of Private Collection (I like it better the longer it's on.) But on cards today, I'm revisiting Chanel 1932 and  Azzaro Pour Homme.

    1932:

I got so many samples of this when I was buying my fb of 31 Rue Cambon a few months back. I remember tucking a sprayed card into my purse and it made the purse smell lovely... and on revisiting 1932, I feel this was the ideal fate for the scent. It's pretty, juicy, and floral, with a vetiver crispness that suggests discipline and school corridors, but on skin it seems to reveal a coppery blood-like note that I dislike. Meanwhile, mingled with the leather and paper scents of a purse, it really seems to shine! I want to spray the bills in my wallet with it but I don't know that it's the kind of thing that I'd want to wear on my person.

Honestly I feel like it's Sycamore for women who wish to project a more floral, overtly feminine air.

    Azzaro Pour Homme:

Another one I have trouble wearing, since the most seasick parts of the ambergris float right to the top on my skin and stay there. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE it on a card - rich, full, complex, and macho. I want to leave a card of it on my desk at work so all the idiots in Light Bleu Sport For He-Men colognes understand what they're up against in my books. As a woman who loves wearing men's scents, I treat this one as "so butch it's camp" and enjoy it the same way I'd enjoy a movie full of wire-fu and deathless promises of brotherhood. It begs for polo ponies and whiskey & sodas served off silver trays.
