    Hi all

I am new to the forum, and indeed perfume. After some recent encouragement from a friend and fragrance fanatic I decided to try Serge Lutens Musc Koublai Khan.

I was blown away by its delicious pungency. I have since learned it is considered a "leather" perfume and I was wondering if anyone could recommend similar brands to try and experiment.

    Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't say MKK is a leather, more of a musk all the way.

For leather you can't go wrong with :

    Knize Ten
    Tuscan Leather
    Puredistance M
    Leather Oud

Bel Ami is another good leather.

Leather is one of my favorite genres. As Mick was saying, MKK is not considered a leather, but a dirty musk. Leather usually means materials that recall suede leather, or tanning agents, or tar, or rubbery, automotive smells.

    Among my favorites:

ELdO Rien and Dior Leather oud are quite butch and dirty (ie they have some of the raunch of MKK, but with bitter leather)

Bandit is butch in the sense of s&m whips

Knize Ten is butch, classic and automotive

At the other extreme, Chanel Cuir de Russie is supersmooth suede, and so is ELdO Tom of Finland.

Not too popular on basenotes, but Thierry Mugler's Pure Leather.

Chypre Palatin since you obviously like musk.

    Ooh, leathers are fun!

I'm a huge fan of Dzing!, Bulgari Black, and the leather versions of both Angel and Amen.

I like Midnight in Paris, need more time with Bandit, and like Comme des Garcons Black for a lot of the same reasons I like leathery scents.
