What happened to CB I Hate Perfume ??? Now defunct ?

None of their web pages work anymore. There's a note about having to move, with a "we would like your help" link to click, but that just brings up a 404 Error message, as does all their other pages.

Anyone know what the story is ?

I'd be sorry if they were out of business.

Site may have been down for a bit. It's fine as of now.

    What a bummer:

I’m sorry to say I recently discovered that I have been seriously screwed by my landlord (an all too common New York experience) and will be forced by the City of New York to move all of I Hate Perfume elsewhere almost immediately. This news came as a most unpleasant and most unwelcome surprise for which I was not prepared. Still the move must happen FAST. This is going to be a very expensive project and I am trying very quickly to raise as much capital as possible. I would SO appreciate your help!

So in order to raise money, I am now offering special IHP Benefactor packages. By purchasing one of the various levels you will be entitled to additional savings when purchasing at I Hate Perfume and may even qualify for special shopping credits at the new gallery, special VIP invitations to the fabulous reopening party or even an Original Custom Perfume designed especially for you by me. Information on all these packages as well as purchasing options can be found below. For further information, please email info@cbihateperfume.com.

I sincerely hope you will consider becoming a Benefactor to I Hate Perfume and purchasing one of these special packages at whatever level you can. Please know this will help ENORMOUSLY and I will be very grateful! And please know that while this issue with our current location is extremely upsetting to me, we have faced greater challenges than this and eventually come through just fine. So I’m certain that very soon we will find a marvelous new home for I Hate Perfume. However in the meantime I’m going to need a lot of antacid.

Site is not responding to any link, other than home page.

Well, Parfum1 does not show it on their site any longer, so something must be up.

Yep, some of the time it works, and then other times it doesn't.

When it rains it pours, I guess.

I hope things work out though; I imagine looking for a new place in NYC, and needing it right away, is not an easy proposition.

I have a feeling there's more to this story. I can appreciate the issue with rent, but what does that have to do with the web site not working? I hope they are not hosting it on their landlord's office computer :-) If they need solid hosting options I'd be glad to help... I own a web hosting company or two.

The link to donate was dead when I tried it, so I tried to email both CB and the other contact addresses to let them know and they all bounced back. Probably knee deep in moving right now. Fingers crossed for them as Brosius has been a key figure in modern perfumery for some time.

Those were my same exact thoughts. As you noted, unless they are hosting their own website, one thing should have nothing to do with the other. The other thing I find odd, why would the line disappear from the Parfum1 website. You would think even if the landlord were to toss them, there would be enough built up inventory.

This being said, I hope the worse is not true. It would be sad to see an Indie like CB go away.

I guess only time and space will tell.

The website is probably down due to not being able to fulfill any orders given his entire business is in boxes and on the move. What a nightmare that would be!

I've never tried his perfumes but I'm usually weary of anyone that procclaims everybody else is wrong and an established industry, like perfumery, is all wrong.

I totally agree with this point. Not only do I not agree with his whole ethos and couple that with his scents, which promise much, but deliver very little, just make me irritated.

None the less, many people from various industries who have dared to think outside the box have gone on to become celebrated innovators.

It doesn't happen often, but then again, not that many people dare to challenge established traditions.

In the BBC multi-part documentary which aired a while back where he and his company played a major part in one segment, I remembered being somewhat underwhelmed by some of his ideas and ways of going about things in the industry.
