    Organizing my Lists...

I'm not "starting out" -- I have tried about 300 different fragrances, and my list of "Tried" has gone to ruin with the new Basenotes set-up. I could used to sort by alphabet or house, to find a frag I've tried no problem, sort by House...find everything I've tried in one house...Anyway, how do you all who have tried more than 50 scents keep track of what you've tried and what you want to try??? I thought of a database, maybe Excel but as soon as I type in 300 fragrances and set it up to sort by house, BN will fix their annoying glitch... then again, it has been 2 months and they haven't fixed one annoyance that they asked people to tell them about. Any one else? Hednic, I know you must have a system of what you owned and what you've tried, you have to or you would never keep things straight...

I don't track what I wear, but I do have a database which I have kept for a while now of all the fragrances I own with some criteria.

Like I said, there is no way I could remember everything I have ever tried without a list. While I don't purchase everything manufactured by any one house, I do have my favorite Houses, and I'd like to sort the lists by House. Often when I see someone post a question about a cocoa fragrance for example, I'll say to myself "I've tried a L'Artisan fragrance that has cocoa...what is it's name?" I used to sort my tried list by house, scroll down to L'Artisan, and see Piment Brulant, and say, Oh, that's it! Now I look hopelessly at a list of 300 Frags listed in "alphabetical order" and say screw it.

I miss the sort by house function too, as I tend to buy more than one fragrance per house. If I like one fragrance, then I tend to want to try others by the same house and end up liking others and buying them as well.

I am not sure if I am using the lists correctly-----I am using the "tried" list for the things that I have tried and the "test list" of things that I want to test, but find the drop down tabs a bit awkward. There is an own, used to own, and want to own. Well, if I own it, or used to own it, then I have tested it already. If I haven't tried it yet, then I don't yet know if I want to own it or not. I have been tagging them "want to own" for lack of a better option. Does anyone else do it differently that might work better?

I use evernote. It may be clunky for such a large dataset, but it allows me to write notes on stuff I like easily.

You have to use whatever is easy for you to manage. I use Microsoft Access and that works like a charm for me.

Agreed. Only reason I choose to use evernote is because it's fairly ubiquitous, having apps for all major platforms.

Then you guys have a better memory then I do...I have tried about 300 fragrances from almost 100 different houses. I can't remember all of them. I know there is a "Tried" feature on this website, but you can no longer sort it by house. I could used to list all my tried, sort by house, then see the 20 different Montales I have tried, and click on each to see my review. Someone mentions "Blood Concept" and I know I've tried one, but is it A, B, AB, O....???? I used to sort my tried by house and see at a glance what I 've tried. I guess it isn't top priority for anyone else...huh.gif
