not a lotta hype but Arabian Nights by Bogart is a disaster.
I am not a gambler (in the casino/Las Vegas sense) but those are my thoughts exactly. Total buzz.
As for disppointing blind buys, I am not overly thrilled with Kouros, and simply cannot wear Yatagan. But I knew they were long shots going in. Apart from that, all my blind buys have been great.
Rochas Man, Body Kouros, La Nuit De L'Homme, Gucci Pour Homme, M7, Fahrenheit. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me six times, shame on... my parents for conceiving me.
After these buys, I quickly found some good places to purchase decants online. I also learned that even those who consider themselves aficionados can be guilty of "hyping" a scent; they're just better at crafting their reviews in such a way as to appear objective.
That said, I really don't mind the hype that appears on these forums. If people want to get excited and wax hyperbolic over a scent, more power to them.
When I was new here, I realized I really like sweet scents (still do). So I blind bought L'Instant de Guerlain PH and Rochas Man on separate occasions. Both were successful blind buys.
I guess one has to research extensively to avoid disappointment and losing money, especially if the fragrances s/he likes are very hard to come by. Although, I would never blind buy anything above $100
