Do you wear discontinued fragrances?

    Do you wear discontinued fragrances?

And what has been your experience about buying it again? Do you fear they will one day be no more? lol.

I guess I may be joining this roost because my favorite fragrance so far since I began taking perfumery seriously has been Robert Piguet's Futur, which has just been discontinued I belief. It can't be bought any longer on their website and Joseph Garces recently mentioned that Futur was one revival that never sold well, much to my chagrin. Pity, it only lasted 4 years on the market.

I also like Elizabeth Taylor's Black Pearls and that has been discontinued for a while, but the vintage bottle I bought on ebay was great. I also want to buy Tendre Poison and Versace's Blonde, as well as Gaultier's Fleur Du Male, and I think I'll keep them as part of my wardrobe, the notes seem right up my alley.

    Which ones do you use?

Yes, I wear discontinued scents. If I like them, I buy an extra bottle.

    Luca Turin's suggestion.

I have too many discontinued ones to mention.

I have a discontinued perfumes. Such is the way of life , right?

    I strive to buy backups.

I don't seek them out, but I have a few. Most of them because they were discontinued after I bought them. I don't buy backups because I have way too many bottles already.

Yes I have discontinued fragrances. Some will still turn up in say TK(TJ)Maxx cheaper for a long time. Some on ebay, some may lay undiscovered in a corner of a store.

Gobin Daude was the big one, new house fantastic vibe about them. Then it seemed like only a year later totally gone. I owned two of their range and even swapped one away, for a limited edition Guerlain.

Cadolle No9, gone totally gorgeous. I still have a bottle of the edp and a edt. But chances of ever seeing anymore long gone.

Too bad to hear about Futur - I like it a lot too. Piguet has been burping out several frags this year, and threatened to reformulate Bandit. Too bad. I think I've recently seen Futur here and there, so perhaps I'll make a point to buy a backup bottle if I see it. (Incidentally, another green chypre, Jacomo Silences, is currently back in production. Who knows for how long).

But to the question. I do wear several discontinued frags, if I have a decently sized bottle. The favorite is Paco Rabanne Metal (it should be up your alley if you like Futur. It's not a chypre, but it's green). But it's true that I am more careful. In any case, with the always new IFRA restrictions, we're to the point that most scent must be assumed to be nearing discontinuation, whether actual or through reformulation.

that's a sad state of affair, IFRA is beyond ridiculous.

Futur's discontinuation is really sad tbh, I ordered samples from all the Piguets, from the old collection to the new one, and other than Fracas, Futur was the only wearable one to me.

I also think the constant churning of new fragrances from Piguet is very tacky. I think Joseph Garces did a great job in reviving the brand but he has since slipped big time, there are more new scents than the classics! Piguet released a lot of fragrances back in the day and I think the focus should be in reviving those instead of constantly making new ones.

I also must say I don't like Aurelien Guichard. I didn't like any of the new Piguets and I saw his other work and a lot of it has been really bad like for instance the LOUD fragrances for Tommy or the Ricci ones with the bow, yuck.

I own and wear many discontinued scents. Unfortunately not much can be done about it except have perhaps backups of the ones you truly love.

    Have a lot of them.

    about a handful I own

I like several of the Piguet, especially Bandit. Less so the new ones (though Casbah is nicely spicy). I don't dislike Guichard per se, but it's true that he often tends towards the Angel model.

Definitely yes. In fact, I sometimes happen to stockpile on some of the discontinued fragrances, as soon as some of the remaining bottles are being resurfaced by retailers (both online and regular stores).
