Not insane, but nonetheless have issues. I want call you out.

-Those who refuse to buy splits because they insist pouring out of the original bottle will "taint the quality" of the fragrance.

-The 2nd group of OCD guys who think there is a difference in smell when you splash on vs a spray. Sure the wearing may differ due to the concentration being spread over the area, but the smell is constant.

-Those who abuse fragrances solely to impress others. Im talking about the Which scent will get me the most compliments?? threads. Just get Acqua di Gio. Better yet, the $3 Moscolino body spray that smells exactly the same.

-In addition, the I want people to know im wearing a fragrance! guys who spray 10-15 times show a blatant disrespect and insensitivity to others that they may seriously be bothering throughout the day. also shows low self esteem and a craving for approval.

-The people who take purely descriptive terms like "old man smell" and "panty dropper" and purposely morph them into personal attacks as an excuse to belittle others, rushing in excitedly for a conflict in a sad effort to validate their own significance and superiority.

Curious to see how this thread is received. want to see what kind of people make up the Fragrance community.

most ppl have issues.some want to be noticed. some want to fit in. some think a cologne will make a female have sex with you.WTF. some may take this site to serious and some may take it too lightly. it is open to all of us tho...

Don't really disagree with anything here but the compliment thing. I just started a which gets more compliments thread (that comment may have been directed my way and i have and like AdG lol) but I felt like the discussion bored was getting boring and was wondering what others thought about two of my favorite fragrances for fall/winter. I like seeing others opinions on that kinda thing because I can relate more. I do wear fragrances not only because I like them but others will be smelling and I like to get compliments. But other than that point, I agree with you on the others.

It is at the end a hobby, and hobbies should be fun.

was not directed at you. only the people who solely seek compliments and are exploiting fragrances to get them

OP weren't you the starter of the recently most controversial thread about "old timer smells" and you're judging others about their threads? Haha just sayin man, (and I was in no way offended by it and don't really see what the fuss was about)

Very interesting list. None of these things really bother me, and I'm certainly not bothered by disagreement (that's how we all learn from each other). I'm bothered only by rudeness and disrespect. Thankfully there seems to be far fewer people trolling on this site than on others.

The one area I'd be careful of is "old man smells". It's really not just "purely descriptive" as you state (who would want to be thought of as a smelly old man?). However, there are certain types of fragrances that seem to appeal more broadly to specific age groups. Perhaps a more polite way to ask the same question is, " I am X years old, and I generally don't like colognes that seem to appeal to people of Y age group such as _____. Could you please make some suggestions of things to try?".

well then...I guess I'm also insane....I simply don't know because I've NEVER done splits with anyone and it feels like its a valid question considering many bottles with sprayers are sealed and naturally when you add air to a fragrance, idk....I have received samples from Lucky scent that have the little toppers and of course they arent sealed tight at all and I have some that are pretty old and yes, I think the fragrance DOES become more stale as time goes by...Maybe its just my friggin' imagination, but the point is...You don't know, unless you ask and this was a forum (or at least a place) where one can go to get answers...I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything about everything....so, I do the next best thing and thats ask questions...

Hey take a chill pill or maybe a parfum that'll cool you? Menthe Fraiche / Geranium Pour Monsieur / L'Humaniste / Grev come to mind immediatelygrin.gif

On a serious note, here's my thoughts on your points:

    # 1 - I don't buy splits, but not bcoz of the reason u mentioned, i like full bottles...simple as that

    # 2 - spray / splash - i like & prefer spray, reason, i'm lazy & splash's 2 much work...+ i dont like parfum on my hands

    # 3 - I've never worn parfums to impress others & I like u & probably others here on BN do not like those threads.

    # 4 - agree with u...

    # 5 - agree & in my 1st month or so was drawn to threads like those, but I learnt to stay away soon...

This is a forum & its going to have its gd / bad / ugly / curious / ignorant / stupid / knowledgeable threads mostly related to fragrances - u b the judge & decide on which thread u want to reply to / participate in...If you do, you will discover a range of positives - some excellent reviewers, humor on an almost daily basis & of course fragrances...

It takes one to know one. That should scare you.

My personal responses to the OP's 5 points:

    I don't buy Splits
    I don't buy Splashes
    Not interested in impressing others
    3 Spays is my norm
Would never consider starting a thread like that

Whatever that makes me in the eyes of others doesn't bother me.

I love my delusion of grandeur!

    I have done splits.

I have come to believe that there's not a whole lotta difference between spray and splash. (I'm sure this opinion will change in 20 seconds.)

I definitely don't wear fragrance to impress others. (Hubby hates perfumes, so to enjoy them, I have to wear them when he's not even physically around.)

I would suffocate if I sprayed anything on me 10-15 times. :(

I no longer use the term "old lady fragrance." :D

But I can guarantee you, I am insane.
