Quick help w/ Cetalox?

    Quick help w/ Cetalox?

I got the "crystals" from PA (which are more like little balls, a little bigger than the styrofoam balls that's in bean bag chairs).

Not a lot of info on how to dissolve these, and to what % I can expect.

I'm assuming either Alcohol or Hedione. Any experience with this?

Should I crush them somehow? Or will the balls dissolve well?

ALSO…I love love love Ambroxan. I've heard this is similar. Any thoughts/ comparisons between the two?

    Thanks in advance!

I use both & find them very different from an olfactory standpoint, though both are great (I've explained elsewhere on here why I mainly use the similar ambrofix rather than ambroxan).

Celestolide will dissolve in ethanol to about 10% - much like ambrofix/ambroxan - but also works in Benzyl salicylate. I've not tried Hedione alone but it does work in blends with a lot of Hedione in so I would expect it to dissolve in that too.

To my nose, cetalox is much closer to real ambergris than either ambroxan or ambrofix. It is also harder to use. It dissolves well with a bit of stirring (and perhaps some heat), but it tends to precipitate afterwards in concentrations as low as 6-7% in alcohol. It also seems to call for higher concentrations in the finished product than most other ambergris similars.

Some time ago I made a simple perfume composed only of hedione and cetalox, and gave it to a  friend as a "personal perfume". He reports being regularly complimented on his smell. As a fragrance, this is certainly much more interesting than other "molecules".

    Thanks for the response.

I'm assuming you dissolved it in the Hedione?

And do you pre-crush the "balls" before dissolving smile.gif

I dissolve Cetalox in alcohol. 5% is a good proportion to start with.

I don´t "pre-crush" the granules before dissolving, but it would certainly help to do it faster.
