Sooo, I'm new and Ibought a sample from perfumedcourt. I watched many many youtube videos giving rave reviews about creed Aventus. Not once have I heard anyone say PINE TREE! This smells like I threw a fresh pine tree on a campfire (sap and all).

Did I receive a fake sample? Or is this the real Creed Aventus?

Pine tree? I don't get that at all. Are you sure you don't mean pineAPPLE?

Positive. It has a very distinct pine tree smell. I really have to struggle and use my imagination to get pineapple from it.

I've ordered a ton of samples from PerfumedCourt and never gotten anything fishy, I think it is a pretty reputable site.

There is a woody/smokey/sappy undertone to Aventus and some people describe Aventus as smelling kind of reminiscent of Pine-Sol floor cleaner, but the opposite of what you're saying is true for me... I have to use my imagination to get pine from this scent, whereas the pineapple smacks me right in the face.

Try procuring another sample. Call your nearest Saks Fifth Ave or Neiman Markus and see if they have it in stock. If they don't outright hand you a sample, they'll at least probably have a tester bottle they'll let you hose yourself down with.

LOL @ "hose yourself down with". The nearest of those stores is about 4 hours away sadly enough. Should I try a different sample source and hope for a different batch?

I think the whole batch number thing is really blown out of proportion and inconsequential, but you could try finding another sample from somewhere (regardless of batch #) just to make sure you didn't get sent a fake or one that was spoiled by heat/air exposure or something.

ah I see. Thank you I will try a different sample. Any other reputable sites to order samples from?

I'm not familiar with any besides PerfumedCourt. They may be out there but I'm ignorant of them...
Just don't buy anything from eBay.

Nothing wrong with eBay, plenty of legit sellers there. You could also try Surrender to Chance.

No, you got the real sample. Aventus does smell like the inner leaf of a pine tree (even though there is no pine in it). And the smokiness of it can remind people of a campfire.

That said, give Aventus a few more wearings before you judge it.

Ok so even though I have been on the fende about this, there are 2 things that keep me thinking about buying a bottle

    1) I have smelled NOTHING even similar to this. It doesn't have a "perfumey" smell.

    2) NOBODY will be wearing this anywhere I would be. Especially in a town where everyone and their mother is wearing Aqua Di Gio or One Million

Guess I answered my own question.

It is quite a unique one. In fairness though, I've seriously never met another guy in person who wears 1 Million.

I will agree that I have never smelled One Million in any professional environment OR anybody I personally know. Just in clubs here and there. Its a good fragrance all in all IMO.
