    Hi all,

This is going to seem a really random thread!

new here and only just getting into to fragrances. I have a preference for 70s and 80s powerhouse frags, and I was thinking are there scents which fit in with sort of a certain mental picture. For example I would like to find a scent of the powerhouse type, which conjours up images of boating and yachting - seeing as it is summer.

any ideas? and please do feel free to leave your own mental pictures and their scents

It is a bit obvious, but I would say Cool Water by Davidoff. It has powerhouse longevity and strength, but is cool.

My mental picture: which powerhouse best fits Walter Brennan?

Brennan strikes me as perhaps a Yatagan type of person, reminiscent of a "what would John Wayne wear" question, they both are similar to me. Though, I must say given his conservative nature, he may have considered powerhouses too loud. So, in that case perhaps something out of the powerhouse genre all together, something distinctly masculine while maintaining a conservative air. Encre Noir, any classic barber shop scent (applied in moderation), those come immediately to mind.

A very thoughtful response! So what is your mental picture?

A very good reply to my post, many thanks to all who have responded so far also.

Another interpretation of your mental picture would be the 1992 Joop NightFlight.

It is extremely fresh, extremely loud first 30 mins, very good for summer activities and very very long lasting! A fresh powerhouse for sure with quite a masculine drydown. To compare, it makes Cool Water to a weak little brother and smells even a tad better as well (and I do like Cool Water/Vintage a lot)! If you wanna get noticed at sea, try this lol beer.gif

Got Nightfilght as I had the original Joop and blind bought it before I started getting into frags in a serious way. For me nightflight is a very underrated fragrance. Unusual pineapple note in there - any other frags use pineapple?

Several fragrances have pineapple, Aventus has a strong pineapple note that dominates the opening and remains noticeable for hours, and so for Animale Animale for men.

A lot of the "aquatics" also use pineapple extensible like Acqua di Gio, Chrome, Exceptional, Usher He, but I abhor those.

They say that Lapidus pH has a pineapple note in the opening, but I do not get it, I get fruity, but not pineapple.

The best pineapple scent to me is Canali men:

What if we flipped this around a bit. I often get visual ideas as to what a fragrance represents for me, or who might embody a fragrance. However, I struggle with this when it comes to Rochas Moustache (vintage). I picked up a bottle, and it was my first chypre, it helped to move chypres to the front of the line in the personal favorites list. In short, Rochas Moustache is amazing, however, I just can't place it visually, not sure why. So, what does the dirty citrus conjure for others?

Excellent idea Musk, I have not tried the frag you mention ( I am still very new to this as a hobby) but it will be interesting to read other peoples thoughts and suggestions.
