A new way to deplete my bank account :-)

    Hi all,

Thought I would introduce myself, always enjoyed wearing a fragrance from young.  Wore the usual Coolwater, Boss, Issey etc.

In my more recent years I've been more drawn to Estee Lauder and Chanel with Bleu being my current favourite.

Caught a discussion thread on another forum and realised there was a whole other side I had zero clue about.  I turned 30 last week and given I have a slight shopping problem anyway laugh.gif I figured now was as good a time as any to step it up a notch and see what I'm missing out on.

Took a trip to London and tried most of the Creed offerings as well as a few others I'd done some research on.  I ended up with Aventus and Terre D'Hermes.  However on the way home I regretted not getting some Green Irish Tweed as well.

So I'm definitely in the market for some GIT but I've also heard good things about Pure Havane which is at the more affordable end of the price scale but would be a blind buy.

Anyway life story over, time to have a look around thumbsup.gif

    Welcome.

You are starting out with interest in good fragrances.

Would recommend never blind buying, however. It's very simple to get relatively cheap samples of anything you want. Check out online sample sites like surrendertochance.com and theperfumedcourt.com.

There's no rush, and it will save you a lot of headaches, trouble and money.

Aventus is a great choice. Unique fragrance. GIT is nice also, kind of smells like cool water to many people. Try some "unique" fragrances with oud and spices....see if you can get Montale Black Aoud sample...NEVER blind buy a Montale bottle though...they are not to everyone's taste. Also try Creed Royal Oud....it is a 'safe' place to start.

Can't see me being back anywhere upmarket anytime soon so think samples are the way to go. Found some UK sites and eBay sellers, think ill get a couple for now before it all gets too confusing!

You are right, being new to fragrances, they can be confusing. I started with a sample of an oud, one of a spice, one of a popular male floral, etc. to find what groups I liked and what I didn't care for. I discovered a love for oud, spices, and incense, and a dislike for fruit, vetiver, aquatics, and powder fragrances. You will learn to appreciate a lot of different groups of fragrances, and what you don't really like.
