    The Myer Galerie de Parfum staff are running "Perfume Masterclasses" again this year.

    These are super fun, and even though I went last year I'm planning to go again (on the 29th).

    Confirmed class dates are:

    Wednesday 21st August, 5.30pm (3 or 4 spots available)

    Thursday 29th August, 5.30pm (up to 6 spots available)

    There's a booking cost of $39 which is redeemable against a purchase of any 100ml bottle (from the Galerie's brands*) on the night. The attached flyer has a bit more info about what will be covered at the session, which will run for around 2 hours.

    If you're interested, you'll need to call Ricky from the Galerie on 0487009261 to secure/pay for the booking.

    A further class is also planned for sometime in September.

    * Robert Piguet, Honore des Pres, Histoires De Parfums, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Frapin, Rance, Etro, Keiko Mecheri, Carthusia, JHAG, Lubin, Neotantric Fragrances and maybe one or two others

    Thanks.....booked for the Wednesday class.

    Why am I spending the first week of August in Melbourne? Clearly I should have booked for the last week.

    MsVeronica - what was it like last year? Do they have someone leading the class who "nose" their stuff - or as a Basenoter do you think one of us would do better?

    Dear Dr Rudi,

    I went last year and had a ball (mind you, there was champagne flowing...)

    The sessions are run primarily by Lucy Settle, who works for Libertine (QLD based importers/suppliers of niche brands for Galerie de Parfum, plus DJs and various perfumeries in Melbourne). Lucy's been in the perfume industry for several decades and has a lot of knowledge/experience to share. She's a great person to know, and I always learn something new at her sessions.

    Personally, I think the Myer sessions are more introductory than 'Master', and are ideal for

    a) people who are fairly new to exploring perfume (with examples to sniff, we are walked through the different categories of the Michael Edwards Fragrance Wheel);

    b) people like me who welcome any chance to network/gab about perfume in a group;

    c) compulsive perfume buyers who appreciate every bit of 'value-added' (again, like me!)

    So, not really value for an advanced perfumista (unless you're feeling particularly sociable and/or were planning to make a purchase from the range anyway).

    Speaking of being sociable, if you're going to be in Melbourne for the first week of August perhaps you can come along to our Sniff-Together on the 4th!?

    Noooooh!

    That sounds a little bit like bad timing, Dr Rudi.

    But, let us know if you're likely to be feeling social during the week that you're in Melbourne, coz myself and probably a few others in the group would be happy to meet up with you in a cafe somewhere to gab on about smelly things :-)

    Oh yes, I'd be up for that too, a mini sniff-together - after all, there's those wonderful Micaleff samples to share...

    Love your accent there Rosemary. :-)

    I had a good time. there were 3 no shows, so the group was small.

    Ricky and Lucy conducted the show. Went through the fragrance wheel, with samples of each group on the wheel.

    I ended up buying the L`Humaniste by Frapin, the Tangeri by Keiko Mecheri, and for the Misses the Calypso by Robert Piguet.
