In regards to the use of Samples....

In regards to the use of Samples....

I have purchased a number of sampes from Luckyscent which, as you know, come in tiny vials.  I have found some unexpected results from using them.  They are as follows

    • I sometimes get what seems to be a different smell from each wrist
    • I sometimes don't seem to get much scent at all (needing to reapply after only an hour or two)
    • I feel like I'm wasting as much on the end of a finger as I'm getting onto a skin surface that won't just be washed right away

So my question is this, do you often decant samples into small atomizers in order to adequately test a scent? I was wondering if scent spreads much more adequately when atomized.  (sorry if that is a silly question, but I still know next to nothing.

.7 ml is not enough. I try to get original samples or decants

    IMO yes.

I'm new to all of this but have already decided I'm not crazy about dabbing on from those tiny bottles.  I am getting the smallest spray bottle of each. Seems this usually is 2ml, sometimes 1.5.

I won't do vials, only spray decants.
I usually only use those small vials for wrist testing, you can test the scent many more times that way. If I want a full wearing, I'll transfer to a small atomizer.

I buy 3 sample each & transfer to an atomizer.

Dabbing then raising your wrist to your nose is not the same as spraying.

Agree VERY strongly here.  I don't sample as much as some because of this......I need at least enough of a sample to put into an atomizer, and anything below 1 ml is a waste in my opinion.  Even 1 ml is pushing it.  I do NOT trust dabbing, I've had enough first hand experience seeing that it produces different results than spraying.

Dabbing should be banned by law.

Ah, I see there are very strong POV's here! Thanks for the input everyone. So where do you find these tiny atomizers?

These are the ones that I use...

    They're great, I buy them 100 at a time.

    And I use these.

The only downside to bestbottles.com is the $50 minimum order. Order different size decants and the 3ml sample atomizers in bulk and you'll be at that minimum in no time. Plus they'll throw in a few in-house scent samples to boot. I was very happy with my purchase from them.

I am not so adverse to dabbing, but one must remember that dabbing in general distributes a smaller amount of liquid than spraying, so one has to dab many times, and that you don't get the initial oomph, because the perfume starts projecting only later, when warmed up by the skin. (I have also read somewhere that the wrist is a bad place to apply perfumes, other pieces of the arm, for instance the inner elbow, being preferable, but I don't remember the source).

I also buy at bestbottle. Once you start playing around, there's no end to the number of vials you're going to use (exchanging samples etc), so it pays to stock up - the minimum expense is not a big hurdle. And once you're there, you can stock up on little funnels (to transfer liquids), small bottles (if you need to decant) and dark pouches (to protect bottles from the light).

The last couple of times I've gotten samples, I've ordered them from MiN New York. They're similar in volume to LS but come in atomizers.

    What is an MiN? Please.

www.accessoriesforfragrance.com is a great store for all kinds of decanting supplies -small ,large etc etc. First class customer service always too. She has an ebay store as well. I am not affiliated but a satisfied customer.

Yes, dabbing from a tiny vial doesn't truly cut it. Atomising is much better.
