Too many wonderful people to mention. Robert DeNiro is one.

Not many people.  Stephen Colbert lives nearby I think.

Some rather obscure personalities from the past:

    Nicolaus Olahus

    Hermann Oberth

    Oskar Pastior

Didn't realize Hermann Oberth came from your city. I remember reading about him in my high school physics class.

Locally, David Bowie and John Major perhaps. Charlie Chaplin lived in my street at one point.

Out of all the famous people, authors, writers, etc to come out of Chicago......  R. Kelly, and Derrick Rose? This makes me very sad.

I love his work – the playfulness and (seeming) ease of his style, the way he is teasing and caressing language (I am mainly thinking of his non-dada writings).

Have you ever translated poetry, Ken_Russell?

For Berlin I want to name Helmut Newton and Walter Gropius.

Thanks for asking- though being a translator indeed and also having translated some fiction, artistic, literary texts in the past, never translated poetry so far (except for the occasional lyric/poetic etc. inserts, quotes, references in fictional or non-fictional texts). Would like however to become more skilled in translating poetry, as well as other literary genres.

Indeed, I find it fascinating how diverse and wonderfully cosmopolitan this community is- so many different backgrounds with so many interesting stories to tell.

from my home town near Heidelberg, which is called Sinsheim, there's in recent times Dietmar Hopp, Co-founder of software-firm SAP. Not my cup of tea but VERY rich & quite a social guy who puts much money in health-research, wellfare & sports and made the football-club 1899 Hoffenheim famous (German Bundesliga). :-)

I don't know if he lives here or not, but when I was in college and worked at a store in the local mall, I once sold David Spade some socks. Sandra Day O'Connor lives here, and I recently saw Ice T and Coco at the grocery store down the street from me. I think they have a house close by. What a random bunch of celebrities!

    Cincinnati.....

I guess probably the Clooneys, Rosemary and George.  And Marge Schott.  Oh and Jerry Springer.

Charles Manson went to my high school, briefly.  shocked.gif

edit: My mistake, looks like the Clooneys are from Kentucky, south of here.
