I own the current version which I honestly don't get much animalic notes in it. Id love to try some vintage Gold Man to see how it compares.
Who else here has appreciate for this great fragrance?
It's great stuff. Very complex, very deep floral with a lot of powdery ambers.
My only qualm with Gold Man is that it smells a lot like Royal Copenhagen to me, without lavender. I'm often surprised by how these two fragrances share a similar powderiness and sweetness. But make no mistake, I think Gold is way, way, way more complex and multi-faceted, full of gentle fruit notes and various flowers that RC never even comes close to replicating. It's just in the general scent impression that I feel the two are close, sniffed quickly in passing.
In a way, that makes me appreciate RC more than I might otherwise.
I`m not certain, but I own two bottles of an Amouage frag they called "Gentleman`s Cologne" which is really vintage I suppose. My own research found out that it`s been calles "Gold Cologne". It`s an ambery-rosy-jasmin fougère-oriental, much less complicated than recent Amouages, just straightforward. Lasts 6 hours on my skin projecting then settles down delicously. Can`t find much animalics (think Civet) in there, but maybe honey & some saline ambergris texture. They are rare & go online for quite a bit - but might be worth the fun.
This one usually gets about 3-4 sprays on me. It's longevity is great but the projection is just so so. Today I'm only wearing 2 sprays of it and you have to get pretty close to be able to smell me.
Is the shower gel worth the price? I've used some cheap shower gels that seem to last many hours after showering.
