    Bonjour Noses and Nosettes,

Can anyone suggest one or two "gateway" fragrances from the house of Montale? Representative but accessible to the newcomer?

    thanks, and bon weekend!

Montale covers a spectrum of styles and genres. What kind of scents do you gravitate to?

Red Aoud. If you become proficient later ... Dark Aoud evil.gif.

    Black Aoud
    Oud Cuir D'Arabie

montale is grt with oud & rose & have a few good ones in this category alone - attar / black / few other aoud's as well.

my favorite is Lime Aoud, followed by Attar.

    Don't know yet. Newb.

Just trying to get a sense of the house. Is there a house style?

Montale seems to have lots of support here, but also have read that some of their oud offerings might be offfputting to the uninitiated-like me.

Black Aoud turned to Aoud Musk to Black Musk to Dark Aoud.

There's plenty of folks here who know Montale better than me (I haven't had much luck with them), but yes, they have a lot of oud (although, from what I've tried, it's safe oud -- nothing that will give you nightmares). There's a good amount of gourmand in their line, too.

Lime Aoud is the most "accessible" of their oud line, to be sure.

Several of their non-oud offerings are quite readily accessible to a newcomer who wants a general idea of their style without the oud experience.

Aoud Lime, Aoud Musk, Dark Aoud and Red Vetyver.

    Black Aoud

This is definitely not a gateway Montale. It is perhaps the "funkiest" fragrance in the whole line!

I'd say start with the non-Aoud line, Greyland, Red Vetyver, Patchouli Leaves are all good. Chocolate Greedy if you want to smell like...well...chocolate. They have about 100 Aoud frags, most of which are redundant because they smell so similar to others. Try a couple, if you don't like them, they're probably not for you. I like Red Aoud.

Thanks. The Red Vet, Lime Aoud, and maybe the Red or Black Aoud. Sounds like a good start.

    Appreciate all of the suggestions

I recommend Red Aoud (and <or> Blue Amber or Patchouli Leaves) for colder season. For hotter season i recommend Red Vetyver. If you like dark, mysterious scents, try Dark Aoud. Or Black Aoud, but BA is not my favourite, although it is the most known Montale perfume.
