Well if we are bumping up the price point, then my favorite one is Chanel Eau de Cologne. †Probably the best "cologne" I've ever tried. †It's so simple, yet so perfectly balanced. †Despite being a classic cologne, it doesn't smell old or dated, it's actually very fresh and modern. †While I do like 4711 on its own, next to Eau de Cologne it feels like swamp water.
Funny story - on one of my visits to Chanel boutique in Las Vegas I bought a bottle of Sycomore, and the girl working there gave me a few samples of other fragrances to try later. †Eau de Cologne was the least interesting one to me, based on my pre-visit research. †But when I got back to the hotel after shopping, I took a shower and sprayed it on, thinking it would all but disappear within 20-30 minutes (like 4711). †That's when I got the biggest surprise - the scent itself was not only fantastic, way better than 4711, but it lasted well over 4 hours on me as I spent some time around the hotel (Encore) with all the competing smells all over the place - I could still smell Eau de Cologne following me. †That same evening I went back to Chanel and bought a full bottle. †Couple days later it was time to head home. †As soon as I got home, I went on eBay and found a bottle at a reasonably decent price, so I bought it. †It is that good, especially in our SoCal summertime when the temps can reach 120 degrees, or more. †HIGHLY recommended if you enjoy the classic colognes category (this one with a decidedly modern twist).
