This stuff caused a big stir when it first came out, and I love the stuff myself, so I don't think you'll be going against the flow by purchasing it. Plus it's got that nice bottle too. I'd not hesitate to pick some up.
One thing to realize about BN is that many frags are quite popular here when they first come out, and then later the enthusiasm for them seems to fade a little as folks get used to them. You can frequently see this phenomenon reflected in the reviews section, where the oldest reviews are quite positive, while the newer ones start to become a lot more neutral.
Is it because the frag is really not that good, and people liked it originally simply because of it's novelty ?
Hard to say, but most people would admit that Black was fairly groundbreaking when it first came on the scene, particularly for something that not niche, but which emerged from the designer realm instead.
As you will soon learn, people's tastes in things really do vary, even among "the experts", so in the end a person simply has gain faith in their own ways of judging things, and go with what smells good to them.
