Tell me about Scent Layering

    Tell me about Scent Layering

I've tried it with Ginestet Botrytic and SL Chergui, but that was only because someone else recommended the pairing.

Do you layer?  How do you decide what to layer?  What is the method? Really, just tell me whatever you think is useful.  The concept intrigues me, but I don't want to end up smelling atrocious!

There have been other threads on this recently, danieq.

Apparently, 'layering' is a term often used when people start off with one product such as bath oil/shower stuff, then follow with another product of the same fragrance, but these days I tend to use it for stuff like starting off with an oil, then adding another or spraying something after applying an oil (but not actually on the same place!).

It works with oud/rose, etc., and I was recently pleased when I sprayed a newer, weaker version of something after using the oil-based 'Ancient Resins', which is frankincense-based.

I've never tried doing this with two sprays 'though - others should know more, although it could be wasteful if done with the more special fragrances!

If it's awful, you can wash it off ;)

Many Basenoters here do this with favorable results. I personally do not layer as I prefer to each scent separately. Everyone has different experiences.

No worries, danieq, it looks like the other one's an interesting read!

Hope you find some nice combinations.

    Musk Kublai + Rousse + Fleurs d'Oranger

Serge Noir + Eau Froid + Sa Majestè la Rose

    Lutens mix up pretty good!

I just did a little experiment that smells much better than I hoped for!

I diluted vetiver e/o at about 25% in grain alcohol, sprayed once on my arm, and on the top of it one spray of Cristalle EdT. Delicious!

I generally layer floral scents on non-floral scents with excellent results.

    For example:

TDC Jasmin de Nuit + Hermès Un Jardin en Méditerranée

Bleu de Chanel + Chanel no. 5 Eau Première
