The whole concept of Comme des Garcons Blue Series, which just launched is to combine a bracing opening with a different pleasant woods accord for the base. When you asked the question this was my first thought - CDG Blue . The Blue part of each of these is more than the color of the bottle, it is a nod to blue or aquatic fragrances that are all the rage now, by adding a wake-up "bracing" opening. CDG Blues open with a slap in the face but are followed with great woods base.
I like these quite a bit, but have only briefly sampled each.
Blue Encens - Opens with cardamom / artemsia that is a squeaky clean "bitters" kind of accord then follows with an incense + amber blend that would be very at home in CDG's Incense Series.
Blue Santal - parasol pine/juniper berry opening for a piney slap in the face, then then it says "pardon me!" with a delicious warm & fuzzy sandalwood finish. One of the finest sandalwood fragrances I've smelled in a long time.
Blue Cedrat - opens with a quince/juniper berry accord sharpness, but finishes with a great smelling cedar redwood scent that reminds me of the smell of wood in hot sauna.
