Sad at saying goodbye to Basenotes

I'm so sad at having to say goodbye to Basenotes, the site that has taught me so much about perfume. The kindness and generosity of so many of you posters here has been a godsend! But I'm reluctantly saying goodbye because I just can't stand the animated ads that are everywhere on this site now. From the moment you type in the word Basenotes and get the first look, to the forums you go to, these moving, distracting, very annoying ads are evident on every page. They hurt my eyes and make it hard to concentrate. My eyes are literally watering because of them right now.

If only you hadn't gone so big, Basenotes! If only you'd stuck with still ads, that didn't hurt anyone's eyesight! But no, you had to go large, and with that, you've lost me.

Thank you for the happy years I spent with you, and farewell!

I agree those adds are very annoying but you can get software that blocks them or another browser that does the same thing. So don't go just because of them as a bit of research and you can have a remedy to the very annoying problem.

You use Adblock Plus as an add on to block adds if you use Fiefox or Chrome as your browser. They effectively block ads. Please reconsider.

I have not seen one of these ads. ( I would not put up with them either, I think they are  insulting )
I have adblock on my browser .
It took about 90 seconds to attach.

I can't install Adblock on my work desktop.

    +1 for Adblock.

If BN means a lot to you, and for some reason you cannot install AdBlock (or other similar products), I believe you could become a supporting member and then you would get the option to disable all ads.

I work mostly off the Mobile version (even when on a PC), just click on "Mobile" button at bottom of page and all your worries will go away.

Happy I don't have this issue also..

I don't have Adblock because I run a forum which has no choice but to run advertising in order to survive and if that's the only way to pay for the site I think it's a little disrespectful to deny the site owner the little income that they get from it.

However, I do run Flashblocker, which is a fabulous little Firefox add-on that means that all of the animations only run when you click on them.  You can still opt to view them if you choose, but it's at your choice rather than automatic.

I am happy to seriously recommend it if it makes the difference between enjoying a site and getting really frustrated by the incessant animations happening around you.

I noticed the ads too on desktop version, it's quite annoying. The mobile version also has ads on the bottom of the page, but not as annoying as desktop version.

I really wish I could keep the ads, because I actually like them, but I had to go to adblocker plus to see videos.

I'll take a look at the support option again - I just haven't found the page yet!

I LOVE the mobile site. It's awesome. And once SOTD is mobile, I'll probably double or triple the number of entries.

You will be missed had you chosen to leave, but please please reconsider:  them ads can be stopped, we will figure it out for you.

I agree, these ads are obnoxious, especially the rollover ads when you accidentally left your mouse on them. They expand to the middle of your screen and you get interrupted by clicking the "x" or close button.

Yes - those ARE annoying. And they definitely have a negative impact on brand image. My customer affinity for Best Buy has dropped like a rock, and it's almost totally subconscious. It's funny. I ask myself "why are you hating these guys?" - and I sort through all my good in-store experiences. It has to be these ads.

I am on Firefox(windows8), I see two ads at the top side side, they don't move and don't leap out at me.

Oh RedRose please do not leave, unfortunately sites these days do need ads to keep going.   But as said you can minimize what you get.

Redrose- do think about staying. I know the ads are annoying . Thinking of you !

It doesn't sound as if you want to leave Redrose, but that you feel that you have to. There is advice here about a possible solution though, so would you reconsider?

    Best,
