Well this gorgeous Montreal afternoon set the tone for a small gathering of some serious perfumistas. Roper-Hall ( Jim, to those bearing samples) hosted a local event with his collection on the table (literally) and opened his doors to Montreal perfume lovers at large.
Basenoters Cazaubon, and Arij, joined fellow Fragrantica afficionado, Gray, for several hours of sniffing, sampling, chatting, and munching. Unexpectedly, the two mini-schnauzers in residence were on their best behaviour.
All arrived bearing samples and surprises, and fortunately the host provided sufficient empty vials for all to partake of the sumptuous fragrance feast. Gray introduced us to some of his favorite Oudhs including "Dahn Al Oudh Raysan" from Ajmal, in it's beautiful red box, gilded with golden arabic script, and his most recent acquisitions from Montale: Dark Oudh, and Amber Oudh.
Basenoter Arij (Nic) happily shared from his eclectic collection with Mugler's Cologne, Chanel Exclusif "Coromandel" and Montreal perfumer Claude Andre Hebert's "A l'Ombre des Clochers" from each of which I gratefully snagged a sample.
Cazaubon emptied a L'Artisan Parfumeur bag absolutely overflowing with a glorious selection of rare and exotic perfumes acquired on her many globetrotting perfume adventures. While we deliriously rummaged through the huge pile, exclaiming our delight, and rapturously inhaling the splendid fumes of Clive Christian, Neela Vermeire, Dior Collection Couturier, and Ulrich Lang among others, Tara regaled us with fascinating anecdotes of her visits to the perfume Meccas of the world, and her meetings with legendary perfumers.
We talked, we laughed, we sampled, and we shared. A victorious afternoon indeed. As we started to slowly gather our goodies, we hoped to meet again within the next couple of months for an outing. Perhaps several of the other Basenoters who made contact will be able to join in the fun. Until then,
