Perfumes containing Tuberose

    Perfumes containing Tuberose

Hi all, I'm new here - nice to meet you.

I've recently discovered that I love the smell of tuberose - and was looking for recommendations on perfumes containing this scent?  I would normally purchase an $80 bottle of perfume, and don't mind going a little higher but nothing past the $200 range.

For an example of other scents I like, I normally wear Happy.

Also, if you know of any tuberose perfumes that would match well with specific colognes, please recommend so I can look into getting the cologne for fiance (I hate it when our scents contradict)

I've been trying to find samples of various perfumes I've researched, but no luck! Some of the samples on Ebay are around $13 bucks, which seems insane for a teeny bottle.  I did find Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia and Beauty by Calvin Klein so I'm waiting to receive.  Any other ideas on what to look for in the meantime is appreciated.

Frederic Malle Carnal Flower, Robert Piguet Fracas and By Kilian Beyond Love are the 1st three that come to mind. All are powerhouse tuberose scents but very beautiful.

i would add frederic malle's carnal flower and robert piguet's fracas to your list - fracas is a huge statement maker, and carnal flower is an exquisite floral blend. neither of them are very cheap, though...

    edit: haha, jinx!

Fracas is the 'reference' tuberose. The original Chloe is rich with it, as is Giorgio, Bev Hills. Try Madonna's Truth or Dare, an inexpensive starting fragrance.

As an aside, for the arty farty amongst us, it was Dorothy Parker's favourite perfume. Who doesn't want to smell lke a tragic poet with ascerbic wit and unfortunate taste in men?

Carnal Flower moves into a higher price bracket and is well loved here on Basenotes.

Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminalle can sometimes be found on FragranceX at a good price. Christian Dior's original Poison is based on Tuberose. Bye for now. Others will make lots of recommendations for niche that I am not familiar with.

Histoires de Parfums has three nice Tuberose scents, of these the most masculine IMO is Tubereuse III.

Fracas would be a good starting point, I agree: it's a classic, a reference, and amongst niche, not too expensive.

Lutens' Tubereuse criminelle could be your next stop. Carnal Flower is $320 for 100ml, so I guess save that for later? But definitely sample each of these!

Tuberose can be big and luscious - which I like - but it's worth mentioning because you talk about happy, which is a subdued perfume.

In any case, as others have said, the reference is Fracas, which is not too hard to find (some Sephora carry it, as well as some upscale dept stores). Buttery turberose, brilliant pink. The madonna perfume Truth or Dare is a copy of Fracas, though lighter and less good that the original, but it can be found pretty cheaply.

Tuberose is usually associated with female perfumes (though I don't see anything wrong with men wearing it). The Lutens perfume some people mentioned, Tubereuse criminelle, is quite butch and perfect for a man too. It is somewhat expensive, at around $140 I believe.

Tubereuse Criminelle is a beautiful tuberose, but has a damn strange opening that strikes most people as camphorous. Afterwards it settles into a beautiful, calmer scent. Check out a sample first.

I like Nuit de Tubereuse, by L'Artisan (Bertrand Duchaufour), especially in the summer. It has this hit of pink pepper in the background, and I love the contrast.

Carnal Flower is stunning. Buttery, coconutty, but at its base it is the most beautiful cool tuberose. Potent stuff, too. Get a sample, or one of the 10mL bottles off ebay. But understand it could potentially ruin all other tuberoses for you, and then you'll be poor.

I'd also like to throw out there for consideration Diptyque Do Son both EDT and EDP.

Juicy Couture by Juicy Couture is a very inexpensive tuberose that is actually quite nice.

You mentioned Ebay for samples; have you looked into Surrender to Chance and The Perfumed Court?

This is my top three list exactly!

l also agree that Madonna's Truth or Dare would be worth a try for you, as well as being easy to find in stores without having to hunt down a sample.

For the man in your life, l agree with hednic regarding Tubereuse III, & l would add Tubereuse Couture by Parfumerie Generale; a crisp, green & not-too-sweet tuberose.

Welcome to basenotes, & please do report back on your sampling! (Tuberose Gardenia is a beautiful perfume, by the way, although it is more gardenia than tuberose, to my nose)
