Hermitage Oils & Pell Wall Join Forces

Hermitage Oils & Pell Wall Join Forces

    Thread Starter

Not a merger or even a joint venture company, but a business collaboration to provide the DIY perfumery market with a great source of synthetic materials in small quantities.

Hermitage has been the home of rare and unusual naturals for years but as of today offers over 100 synthetics as well - 55 have been added to the site in the last week - and there are many more to come.

Part of the idea is to ensure that we offer every ingredient identified by the collective wisdom of the Basenotes DIY community as an 'Essential Ingredients For Fine Fragrance'(the link goes to the relevant thread). As I write this all the materials identified as belonging in the first two orders are available, and I think that's the first time it has been possible to get them all from one place. We plan to have everything for orders 3 and 4 before the end of the year.

Another aspect of the mission is to offer a selection of the most interesting and difficult to obtain items that normally can only be obtained in large amounts or from specialised suppliers who don't sell to the amateur market. There are many wonderful materials that we'd love to be able to make available and we're open to suggestion - so feel free to say so here or to either of us direct if there is something you've been wishing you could buy but can't. No promises, but if we can help, we will.

As I write there are already ingredients stocked that are, so far as I know, not available anywhere else in Europe or even the world,in quantities of less than a Kg.

You'll find the full range of synthetics now offered on the Hermitage Oils website in the Artisan Perfumery tab. Part of my role is to write about the material from the perspective of a practicing artisan perfumer - someone just like you - so that you can find out enough about the material to know whether or not to buy even where you may be unfamiliar with it.

Many of you will know that I've been a customer of Hermitage in the past (still am for many naturals) and I want to be clear and transparent about the relationship: I choose which synthetics, provide the write-up and source the materials.

I have no involvement whatever with the naturals side of the business except as a customer: so my thoughts on those are as unbiased and independent as possible considering I count Adam as a friend. I can't say the same about the synthetics: they are my choice of material and source, so naturally I think they are the best, but I wouldn't want anyone to be in doubt that I have a financial interest so am not an unbiased observer.

I longed for such a source when I was starting out and I hope many of you will find it of value.

Finally I should just note here that I've been in touch with Grant for a few weeks as plans have developed and have his blessing for the announcements I'm now making.

YES!!!!! Expanding at last! CONGRATULATIONS! Waited long for this to happen. Not everything according to my taste, but then again: who gives a s***about my taste?! Only thing that matters is that Hermitage has at last openedthe gates tothe synthetic heaven.

Again: Congrats! Was about time! And: thanks, Chris, above all.

    Random suggestions:

-crystals: any crystals, like Cedrol Crystals, Cedryl Acetate, OK, in general: any wood, crystal wood, liquid wood! Just more wood. Forget the crystals. Any wood, like "forest in a bottle"-wood!

-Karanal, Okoumal...oh God, I'm still in the woods. Sorry.

-bases:substitutes/accords/whatever: likeNeroli, Agarwood and stuff like that.Sorry, not familiar with the current molecules available. Anyway, if not, I'll go with your Aurantiol and so on. Might sound primitive or inartistically crude, but I think that such bases can save a beginner and many times secure a partial victory in the whole "failed again!"-trail of frustration, at least at first. Might be worth a thought.Rose Givco and Green Tea are of course a good start, and a very popular one, I think.

-fractions: cedar, vetiver (excuse me as I faint) etc. Can I just download the Robertet catalogue and post it here? It would be easier. Or anything from the French Biolandes. Do they do fractions? Think so, could be not.

I want to get some realfir balsam absolute, before I die, if possible. Only have the reconstitution from PA.That's why I know them, Biolandes: they have it! Plus aEuropean retailer I know who lists it, but who should be kindly requestedto check on his prices again. It's fir abs, not orris abs. Off topic. Apologies.

PS: If you sell woody fractions or woody molecules or any woody goodies: could you do it by the bucket?! (just a joke, I swear, besides: I am always broke this time of year). And if my suggestions are unacceptable -be it because of the price or nature of material or just too personal- no problem. Just thoughts and personal likings.

Take care and keep expanding. You have Hedione high cis...excuse me, now I really have to go.

Hi everyone, Adam here, read this and thought I best chip in! Forgive me as I do go on but this is a proud moment for both me and Chris, maybe six months in the making.

First of all to the beautiful woman behind the 4160 Tuesdays alias, your comments made me laugh hard. I can’t believe my Auntie Val comment is out in the public!! But for its worth you know I mean it. You are a kind soul, very supportive, humble, creative, and you have inspired me greatly these past few years. We will meet eventually I’m sure of it as you are a personal hero of mine.

LPP – I am brand new here at BaseNotes but you and many others have really made me feel welcome and at home so I want to publicly say thank you. The moderators here don’t have it easy that much is clear and I think you are all doing a great job.

Flageum – my partner in crime, why do I adore you, I think because we argue like cat and dog yet we continue walking forward together. I hope you stay around here as you inject lots of honesty and considered opinions.

As for your requests I would say me and Chris have literally just got this off the ground and we need to learn to walk first before we can run. As we better understand our friends and customers we will adapt and I’m confident together we can slowly but surely assemble a synthetics offering to please everyone.
You mention crystals and bases, I think Chris is best placed to answer.

As for the Robertet collection all I can say for now is this, I have lots and lots of new materials coming on. This includes Lisylang, Cedarwood Heart, Patchouli Heart CO2, Tiare Absolute, bois d’Encens – Co-extraction of frankincense sacra resinoid with Virginian cedarwood, Jasmine CO2, Honeybush CO2, a collection of Oud oils from various origins, Vetivert CO2, Bread – colourless extract, Peach CO2, Apple CO2 and maybe an Apple Natural courtesy of Robertet. Lots more like Eucalyptus Absolute, Lime Flower tincture, Buchu Absolute, Juniper Berries Absolute, Coconut tincture, Sea Fennel, Sea Pine, Strawberry Gum – aka Eucalyptus olida, Lemon gum aka Corymbia citriodora Hook, Rose Tea Tree, Blue Cypress CO2, Emerald Green Cypress CO2 and essential oil, Sandalwood spicata CO2, Buddha Wood CO2, Mango Leave Absolute, Strawberry Leave Absolute and due to David Ruskin comments about the Spinach Absolute I plan to get that as well – all this before the end of 2013 so I think you will agree plenty to be excited about. For the Fir Balsam – its hard because I hear from more than one source about diseased materials and so Im uncomfortable about this, Id be more comfortable offering the substitute via Robertet.

Grandhajala – thanks for the love, we will need everyone to get behind us as we have some tough competition.
Ramute – thanks for the love, its mutual.
Pkiler – thanks and Im going to PM you in 5 minutes as not sure if my emails are getting to you.
Pears – thanks, loyal supporter and just a damn nice fella, hope your well pal.

Finally and for me most importantly I just want to publicly say thanks to Chris as Hermitage would not be what it has become had I not been fortunate enough to meet you. Three years ago I embarked upon assembling the most awesome range of naturals on a shoe-string budget and was not given a chance in hell. You supported me from day one, you’re a true gent and the definition of a true friend.

This is indeed odd... Adam's full post is there in my repost, when I want to edit it, in the editor, but does not show now. the full post showed briefly.

Either a Moderator is editing the posts, and hiding portions, or the System is doing the same...

But for its worth you know I mean it. You are a kind soul, very supportive, creative, and you have inspired me greatly these past few years.

Flageum – my partner in crime, why do I love you, I think because we argue like cat and dog yet continue walking forward together.

Lots more like Eucalyptus Absolute, Lime Flower tincture, Buchu Absolute, Juniper Berries Absolute, Coconut tincture, Sea Fennel, Sea Pine, Strawberry Gum – aka Eucalyptus Ioda, Lemon gum aka Corymbia citriodora Hook, Rose Tea Tree, Blue Cypress CO2, Emerald Green Cypress CO2 and essential oil, Sandalwood spicata CO2, Buddha Wood CO2, Mango Leave Absolute, Strawberry Leave Absolute and due to David Ruskin comments about the Spinach Absolute I plan to get that as well – all this before end of 2013 so I think you will agree plenty to be excited about. The list is big and it is happening.

Pkiler – thanks and Im going to PM you in 5 minutes as not sure about my emails to you.

Pears – thanks, loyal supporter and just a damn nice fella, hope your well pal.

Finally I just want to publicly say thanks to Chris as Hermitage would not be what it has become had I not been fortunate enough to meet you. You got behind Hermitage from day one, you’re a true gent and the definition of a true friend.

Finallyand for me most importantly I just want to publicly say thanks to Chris as Hermitage would not be what it has become had I not been fortunate enough to meet you.
