I got a small sample of the parfum from the Caron outpost in NY when i visited last month. Pretty sure it came from the famed urns. It's pretty fierce, and it took so long to get over the pungent clove note that I quit trying to like it--and I'm quite open minded, adventurous and a Caron fan. So much so that I wondered if this was not the case where vintage explains everything. Oh, and don't bother with anything else than the parfum, as with all Carons now.
Now to get vintage on eB...is going to be rough. Right now there is a mini and that baroque full bottle at a stratospheric price. Is it vintage? not even sure. Poivre is a rarity. None of the usual decanters have it in vintage.
Why don't you call Caron in NY at Phytouniverse, and explain the situation. They are actually very nice. Maybe they can send you a sample. That will get you started. Good luck, it's a great, albeit hard, project.
