Can anyone let me know the best source of raw materials in UK for perfumery. NOTES NATURALS AND SYNTHETICS

It may depend on the quantities that you're interested in. Are you looking to make fragrances for personal use, as a small business or a large business?

    Bonjour Zulf

As Pears says it depends on volumes but it’s also worth noting “best” is very subjective.

In the UK if you wanted to buy large volumes (let’s say 500ml upwards) of naturals you could look at Bristol Aromatics or Amphora Aromatics – both are based in the Bristol Area and have good reputations.

You also have New Directions UK and Essential Oils Direct. Given the options of buying from either of these companies or having my teeth pulled out with pliers I know which option I would choose! Essential Oils Direct offers Honeysuckle and Hyacinth Absolute. The Honeysuckle contains BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL aka Lilial (I think – better people here to confirm this) and my understanding is it does not occur in nature.

For smaller volumes just type “essential oils” into Google UK and work your way through the never ending results.

As for synthetic suppliers De Hekserij, Olfactik and Perfumers Apprentice all have very good reputations. All the best, Adam

    Dear Adam

Thank you for your perfumed reply, just as you were to describing a frangrance, it was nice to deal with you. For my speciality essential oils I find you to be the best supplier, I am now trying to discover Aroma chemicals, for which i will try people you have recommended.

Once again thanks for taking personal interest in your customers queries.

    Best regards

    Dear Pears

Thanks for your reply, I am looking for small qty, not ready for kgs yet.

In fact what is most bothering me right now and for last few days are two base notes one in Amouage Interlude and very similar in Clive christians 1872, both claim the base notes to be Agar wood smoke, but to my nose it smells like Tamarind flower note.

this making me mad i have now smelt half my bottle still cannot sus it.

longevity of this note is tantalising throughout the day.

In my collection i have approx 200 accords and EO's mix nothing smells like this.

    regards

    Do you have coumarin?

Tonka and coumarin are similar, though tonka has extra complexity, both have the common ground of that fresh-mown hay note that is so distinctive.

    Dear Paul and Chris

thanks for your replies but i have a big problem that has been bugging me for last 2 weeks. Two weeks I wore Amouage Interlude, After the initial war of notes on the day the next morning there was a base note that i cannot make out, the literature says that the base notes are  leather and Agarwood smoke, however it is not, even today i went to selfridges and tried Clive Christian, and the same base note was there when they dont mention Leather and Agarwood.

The note ...its like tamarind sour but sweet and lasts for three days. i cannot figure it out....I call the NOTE BUG. its a killer.

    please help.

Zulf Khan, if you visit Hermitage oils, you'll notice that they've now added a long list of aroma chemicals in the Artisan Perfumery section.

Zulf, perhaps you haven't check recently enough. Hermitage now offer individual aroma compounds.

Zulf, hello first. I was going to suggest if you were struggling with detecting a note, to send a sample to a few local and experienced perfumistas and they might be willing to sniff it for you. A micro sample in your case if it is an Amouage. You don't say where you are but many of us love a good sniff challenge. You also could just pose the question on the relevant thread to those that already possess the perfume as to what they think the note is. I'm sure many will oblige very willingly.

    Dear Mumsy

I am getting deeper and deeper in this quick sand , and it so agitating and depressing, that it makes you scream, this evening i went to collect my glasses, in the shopping centre, there they have branch of Selfridges in Arndale centre Manchester UK, I thought might as well go and have a few sprays of expensive stuff on my hands and clothes. Next to Amouage counter I spotted a row of new bottles, antique looking round bottles with metal emblems and metal lid. The first one I picked was called complex, i took a few sprays on my left hand and quickly picked a reddish looking one before a sales model comes over and say ...Can i help?. and she did come and ask and  I said no thank you, just looking and then walked away, and started smelling my catch, to my damn surprise, the first one on my left had even stronger note of the same mysterious stuff and the one on my right was equally mesmerising, it was a royal smell. I came back and asked the girl to write the name of those two for me, on returning home i did not wash hands and as i write this message, that cruel note come and haunts me, its compelling me to buy them. I am convincing my self that i am greedy with all the perfumes and raw materials i have. i have now decided to wash my hands with Fairy liquid so that these two fragrances don't haunt me any more.

The make is  Boadicea, and names are COMPLEX and REGAL, their website is www.boadiceaperfume.com have a look and tell me you have come across this one.
