It's that time of the year again. I'm looking for a new frag. I've gotten a couple of recommendations, but I'd love to hear what you guys think, what you recommend, and what your favorite winter scents are. A few months ago I bought a 2ml bottle of DHI based on your recommendations here and I love it, but I'm kind of interested in trying something new. First off, things I love about DHI:
The layering is awesome. I absolutely love the effect it gives off, with that "muskiness," the thick and clean lipstick, and the slightly cloudy pear all at the same time. I'm looking for the same or similar effect in my next scent. On a slightly unrelated note, when I was looking at DHI everyone talked about how many women complimented them on it, but funnily enough all of my compliments have come from men. Yesterday someone practically begged me for the name of the scent because he wanted something to impress his woman with. It really is a wonderful scent, but I'm not sure I would buy a full bottle of it, to be honest. Anyway,
So far I've been recommended these:
Eau des Baux by L'Occitane
L'Instant De Guerlain Pour Homme Extreme by Guerlain
Égoïste by Chanel
I'm looking for something that will have good projection and longevity (10 to 12 hours) without being overly loud and obnoxious. That's asking for a lot, I know, but that's why I've been looking at "Intense" or "Extreme" formulations. DHI fit the bill well, I was able to apply it at 6AM and it was still noticeable well into the evening. I'm interested in something a bit more spicy or smoky (in terms of actual flavor), or maybe chocolate-y/cocoa (dark chocolate, not sweet candy) with citrus (like an orange). Either that or tobacco-y with some vanilla and spice (without being overly sweet.)
Again, I really enjoyed the muskiness of DHI along with the powdery part and the clean smoothness. Something that makes you think of Fair Isle sweaters, snow, fireplaces, Christmas and snuggling on the couch with your SO.
