I do not think it's overrated at all. The opening is bold and dirty, really animalic. Although the DNA is there, I find it a different enough vibe when I wear it. Many people feel it's too close to the original, but I feel that is one of those generalities that got out of hand, almost an internet pile-on phenomenon started by people who couldn't accurately describe what they were smelling and the subtleties, so they just said it smells a lot like the original. Well yeah, most have a similar feel in some way or another. It's really good stuff and a nice element of change in relation to the other flankers. For $55 or whatever, it's a steal. If people would really smell Cuir and the original next to one another but not at the same time, they'd notice many differences. The supply definitely outweighed the demand for Pure Leather (Ciur) but that is only because the amount of flankers is increasing each year. At some point, it's becoming saturated. To me that doesn't deter from the fragrance at all. Havane was a huge hit, Pure Malt a really huge hit, Pure Coffee a cult hit in that the supply wasn't there and it was the first legitimate A*Men flanker, and obviously the original was a home run. Leather and A Taste are excellent offerings, but I think in most people's eyes, they just don't offer as much of a perceived change from the original to warrant large universal purchases. There are differences there, but when people already own three or four, they really want something different. I highly recommend Cuir.
