Blind bought Vera Wang myself, because it was available at a mall shop for firesale price. I also think I gave about $30 for a 100ml of it.
Even still, at that price it was a failure. At first sniff, it has some promise, and I could see the similarity with LIDG in the very open with the citrusy-woodsy opening. However, Vera Wang isn't even in LIDG's zip code as far as quality, it's quite synthetic to my nose, and turns thin after the first few minutes.
I don't hold "synthetic" against a fragrance necessarily, but in this case, it means this smells cheap. Sillage and projection are probably on-par for a "formal" scent, i.e. not overly heavy. However, longevity was poor on me.
LIDG didn't quite live up to the (admittedly sky-high) expectations I had, but I'd still call it quite good. Unfortunately, I'd give Vera Wang about 1.5 - 2 stars max, out of 5. Good call on the LIDG comparison though, there's something in there that's shared in the open in particular, I'd agree.
EDIT: Oh, and therefore I'd have to conclude that we don't hear much chatter about Vera Wang because there's just not much to say about it
