I've been noticing a trend with certain fragrances on me. They smell amazing on paper, I'm intrigued, I spray it on myself and....ugh! I get the most acrid note that does not appear when spraying on paper.
This is the only way I can describe it:
hurts my nostrils, like sticking my face in powdered laundry detergent.
It overpowers everything else. And it never goes away. It's there typically from top to bottom.
This happened to me with Dzongkha, most disappointingly, because it's such a great fragrance. I had my friend spray it on himself and the note was not apparent at all on his skin. Obviously, it appears that my chemistry does not work with some ingredient in these fragrances. I'm trying to recall the other fragrances that I had this same reaction with and D.S. & Durga's Pale Grey Mountain, Small Black Lake (I know, super helpful) was one. Possibly Sel de Vetiver (I remember it smelling bad on me/great on paper, but don't recall if I got "that note"). I'm starting to think it's vetiver, although I've successfully worn other vetiver frags without this issue. Help! It's kind of driving me mad. Does anybody else get this? I see hints of it in reviews for well-loved frags where there's an odd review.
