Matthew Williamson launches fragrance collection
by Grant Osborne, 09 February 2007

The fragrances (which were created by perfumer Clement Gavarry) are inspired by visits to much loved holiday destinations, and attempt to recreate the textures, colours and resonance of each environment.
'I liked the idea of isolating key notes which individually relate to the Matthew Williamson vision in slightly different ways.' said Williamson. 'I felt it would be interesting to have four distinctive notes which could be worn depending on the wearer's mood and location.'
The four fragrances are:
Lotus – a high summer evening in Bali
A shot of shocking pink from the lotus flower on a still aqua green pond.
Complemented with soft pale pinks and a ray of bursting sun from an oriental garden.
Warm Sand - Morocco
The warmth of gold and orange beaches meets the glow and richness of saffron and rust. With a touch of the seaside, bug blue skies as the fading sun sets on a warm sandy shore.
Jasmine Sambac – Ibiza
The freshness of lemons with the zest of limes on a long summers day
Pure green whites from the flowering garden, contrasting with the zing of the turquoise shades reflected in the pool.
Incense – the mountains of western India
The woody scent of burning incense, with a hint of the nutty and deep rich browns.
Hues of purples and grey against the calming shades of blues and pinks from a dusky evening. The Bottles
Matthew designed the fragrance bottles with the help of Henri Monclin of Ateliers Dinand.
The design is based on the contrast with which Matthew Williamson plays between urban and exotic realms. They are architectural and simply constructed, yet convey a great feeling of lightness with the fragrance floating within a vibrant coloured frame.
The design of the bottle was inspired by the idea of a fusion between vintage and modern designs. Classic clean lines but with a cut glass or Venetian type effect.
The fragrances launch on 15th February and are exclusive to Selfridges. The Collection launched nationwide on the 1st of March.![]()
