The 5th of May has been designated Chanel No. 5 day in celebration of the new advertising film starring Audrey Tatou. The film is directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who also directed Audrey in 'Amelie' and it will be shown on-line at www.chaneln5.com from today.
According to Chanel: "the film tells the story of a brief, sensual encounter between a man and a woman who meet on a night train. They brush past eachother, are attracted to each other, hesitate...but No.5 is irresistible."
Tatou shared her views on fragrance and Chanel in an interview:
Do you see fragrance as an extension of your personality or simply an accessory?
For me, a woman who wears perfume represents the ultimate in femininity. Perfume is much more than makeup or clothes: you wear perfume like a secret - and not a secret that you are prepared to share with anyone. You only share it with someone you get close to: its like a kiss.
Do you sometimes turn to specific scents for your acting roles?
No. I wore Chance and Coco Mademoiselle for a long time and now I wear Chanel No.5. When you have a perfume that suits you and that you like -and I do find this scent really suits me -then it is difficult to move on to something else.
Do you believe at love at first scent?
Yes...You can know or recognise someone by their smell. For example a woman with no taste will also have a tasteless perfume: it will be suffocating, heavy even slightly nauseating. The skin is a means of expression and reveals your personality.

You can view the film online at www.chaneln5.com as well as see behind the scenes interviews with the director and star of the film.![]()
