It is official - Mum's Rock! Show your support to Million Mum's campaign on Twitter
The Million Mum's campaign, of the White Ribbon Alliance charity, carries out vital work to reduce maternal mortality rates across the world. The charity and website MumsRock aim to raise awareness of the issues facing mothers around the world who do not have access to maternal support and healthcare, which in some cases can be life-saving. Sarah Brown, the charity's patron, explains "The Million Mums Campaign will take up all our voices and make sure they are heard far and wide. It will connect people north and south to raise awareness and to advocate for the trained health workers girls and women need so that they, and their babies, have the care they need, before, during and after birth."

MumsRock has joined forces with the Million Mums campaign to host a Tweet-a-thon. Those of us with a twitter account can simply show their support by tweeting to '@mumsrock because...' If tweeting is not your thing you can still add your voice to this incredible campaign by emailing tweet(at)mumsrock(dot)com and they will then tweet it for you. Think about all the reasons your mum rocks, or their mum or ask your kids why they think you are the bees knees!

The goal is to unite a million mums across the globe to emphasise the importance of good support and healthcare for mothers and their children in disadvantaged communities.

As well as Sarah Brown other famous mums that are already part of the campaign include: Sarah Ferguson, Davina McCall, Claudia Winkleman, Naomi Campbell, Mariella Frostrup, Kirsty Young and Eve Pollard.

The Tweet-a-thon will last for just one day, Thursday October 15th 2009 until midnight. If you tweet, your name will join the growing list of names around the world who are supporting the Million Mums campaign.

Some of the campaign's star-mums are already warming up their tweeting muscles to sum up motherhood in those all important 140 characters: Lauren Laverne says, 'My mum is little, red-haired, funny and very kind. I think she should be President of the Earth because she is the most organized capable person I know.'

Naomi Campbell: My mum rocks because...
'She is my whole inspiration, the person I lean on, the person I confide in and I'm truly grateful to her...she is my best friend.'

So add your voice and get tweeting today - October 15th 2009. MumsRock says "If we can get a million mums tweeting on this it will make a great statement about what we believe women deserve during pregnancy and childbirth. And maybe the politicians and policy makers around the world will sit up and take notice. After all isn't this what motherhood should be about? Don't forget to tweet @mumsrock because.....on October 15th 2009. Let's show the world the power of mum."
