I totally know that AYY candied something-or-other of which you speak. It's the reason I like it. Most ambers are too sharp and herbal, have massive sillage, and take away from any other note in the perfume. But this one is domesticated and tempered to within an inch of its life, which is the only way I can easily wear amber. Re. the other EL PCs, I couldn't do Tuberose Gardenia-- I think I mentioned my thing with gardenia being plasticky on me. I'd sample Jasmine White Moss, but it's not one I'm really interested in.

Have an awesome day and have fun with your kids! Anything out of the ordinary planned?

Hey!!! Where's your Carnal Flower part 2? Your public awaits you.

My nephew is awesome. He's almost a month old now. My sis just sent me a picture of him wearing the moccasins I gave them for the baby shower. I can't wait to see the little guy again!
I'll hoover your car if you wash my dishes! I'd rather clean the showers/toilets than wash dishes. Why?? It makes no sense. I just can't stand doing dishes.
Anyhoo, I'm headed to the mall today, so if they have that Prada, I'll give it a whirrrl. I'm tempted to go check out the local antique store to see if they still have the PRISTINE vintage My Sin set they had a few months ago. If they do, I might just have to make a deal. It's been under bright, hot lights for well over a year, and they're asking $125, but for such a risk I don't think I'd pay over $40. We'll see how desperate they are to rid themselves of it..

Happy Australia day!! Sounds like you're having a lovely day off

I spent the day at my man's parent's place playing with their new Boarder Collie puppy - he's so adorable but I have scratches all over me now!
  4. You too Kal!!!! Thanks for your Aussie Day wishes

Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius. To shorten winter, borrow some money due in spring.

You are absolutely right about Beyond Paradise. Count me as one who doesn't get the hype. It reminds me a little of Pure Poison, which I like a lot better (but still isn't exactly my favorite genre.)

I bought Amber Ylang-Ylang. I'm kind of loving amber right now. It was a real difficult note for me when I first started, but I've learned I like it sweetened up a bit, and AYY is gorgie! I'm thinking of trying a big gun amber again, to really challenge myself. There's a samp of Ambre Russe lying around somewhere, and I recall trying it once last year and liking it, so maybe I'll wear it for a few days so I can decide yea or nay. (Because I really need another cold weather fume. )
I would like to try Sensuous Noir, not because I expect or think it will knock my socks off, but because it might be fun to have one simple, uncomplicated, accessible, easy on the nose, pretty, and modern, scent. The price is right, too. So far I have only sniffed the bottle; I should have asked for a sample last time I went to get my eye cream.

    Hi Kal,

All the fragrances are "new" as opposed to vintage. I haven't broken open the Y yet, so still can't comment. The LHB is new (when it gets here, grrr) - I sampled this extensively through November - I think the woman at the Guerlain counter in Myers got sick of seeing me. But, quite simply, here was a fragrance that I fell in love with - it smells like nothing else (except Mitsouko) and I just had to get some. One hundred years later I catch up with the rest of the world. Still, I am getting a little impatient with its arrival.

Me and Carnal Flower - Part One:

by Kal on 5th January 2011 at 05:41 AM
I have a great idea! Instead of blurbing about a newly acquired fragrance in Word and then trying to transfer 3 months worth of observations into a blog, I'll do it all as blogs! Bit by bit! That way I won't have the odious task of censoring my blogs or trying to figure out where to splice them. My Jungle L'Elephant and L'Heure Bleue 'reviews' are two blogs long - each - so I am yet to post them. I hate editing - I need an editor!! D:

Anyway, onto Carnal Flower from Frederic Malle.

To whom it may concern:

This is me ...

I have tried posting my reviews on Basenotes only to have them disappear into the 'system' too many times so I've decided to change my tac and post blogs instead.
I was lurking for about a year before joining last February and only joined because I had a question to ask but I still haven't asked it - and it still

Hello There

I've been out of the loop in all areas of life since my kids were born in 2006.

After a blog posted by Atlanta1 I discovered that L'Oreal had taken over YSL.
Having only recently learned that L'Oreal still tested on animals I was horrified to think that they would be doing the same with YSL perfumes and was glad that I no longer have any.

On further investigation I was even more horrified to find out that they also took over The Body Shop in 2006! Shocked! Appalled!
