Hi,Kal,this dummy just responded to your last message on my own page! So,you'll see that when you visit me again.Just really wanted to say I'm sorry it seems we've come to a dead end on the Penhaligon's and wish I knew of more houses that would maybe appeal to you.I'm always sampling though,so now I'll keep you in mind too,if I come across anything outstanding!

I dont think we have any good perfumes here. Mostly generic designers, some Creeds, and Serge Lutens !!! Theres a fragrance brand called "Miss Saigon", but it smelled very synthetic and generic. Its only good for bottle collectors.

    Hi Kal,

Sorry if I gave you a bum steer regarding the Penhaligon's. Last time I looked they had more than 4 in the range (and they weren't marked down either). I think you're right on the pricing strategy - that often looks like they're getting out of the brand - however I know they had the Bond No 9 stuff out cheap recently too - and they are still carrying that. Enjoy the festive season!

Hi,Kal!Well,I have to agree it sounds as though Penhaligon's is indeed ignoring your request. That really stinks. So sorry my suggestion didn't work out.If you're able to sample them in a store(I did see that mentioned by another poster in your thread)I especially recommend you check out the Anthology series if it's available. These scents were originally introduced in the 1970's and have been tweaked a little and re-introduced.They do retain a lot of classic qualities-my favorite is Night-Scented Stock.I hope you find lots of things to sample-I live in a bit of a fragrance "wasteland" myself!Oh,and do tell me how you like your Malles when you get them!

I was snipped again, too! Maybe we should take this to pms.
I just looked at the review page for Beautiful. It doesn't sound like something they'd make nowadays. So sad, what has become of so many lovely fumes. I've sort of made it a point to not go after vintages, because I'd rather not fall in love with something that doesn't, and by law now, cannot exist anymore. Case in point-- Lanvin My Sin. I bought a bottle of Long Lost Perfume's version, and while it's a reputable company, and I think what they're doing is pretty cool, it just is not the same thing. The new version smells very incense-y, which is fine, but the spirit of the old is completely lost, I'm sorry. It isn't My Sin anymore.
I'm going to be a good girl now and go exercise before work.

I do blog, on occasion; it's on here, the blue number 9 under all my info on the fora. Anyhoo, I think today, especially with the niche houses, it's more about understanding or connecting with the line's vision, or concept (Serge Lutens, L'Artisan, Parfumerie Generale, etc etc), rather than the line physically having a distinctive smell (like Guerlinade or Mousse de Saxe.) I'm not big into niche scents, either, though I find SL very entertaining, and I do think I understand this line, even if I don't find many of the scents wearable. Niche is a bit intimidating to me, and requires lots of sampling. I found a few fumes that I loved when I first started sampling, and I don't want nor feel the need to have a massive collection, so I don't sample much anymore. I'm very happy with a small collection.
As far as houses/noses, my likes run the gamut. I've tried to find a rhyme or reason to my collection. I just like what I like, man!

You should post your blogs. Your writing really is very entertaining! I'd love to hear your thoughts on LHB. You know there are some fumes that just don't work for you at all, but you can appreciate their beauty and appeal to others? If it weren't for the long-lauded respect and praise for Guerlain, my experience with them would seriously lead me to wonder what is up with this house. Like, I couldn't believe when I saw so many people on here love L'Instant. I just don't get it, which is another thing I find interesting, how you really connect with some lines, and some you don't. That's why Mitsouko is such an oddity for me. It was my first and most successful blind buy. My bottle is 1987 edt with about 20ml left, so I wear it sparingly. One o' these days I'll get around to trying Mitsouko extrait and also the new formulation of edt.

So what was your other love at first sniff?

Me and Carnal Flower - Part One:

by Kal on 5th January 2011 at 06:41 AM
I have a great idea! Instead of blurbing about a newly acquired fragrance in Word and then trying to transfer 3 months worth of observations into a blog, I'll do it all as blogs! Bit by bit! That way I won't have the odious task of censoring my blogs or trying to figure out where to splice them. My Jungle L'Elephant and L'Heure Bleue 'reviews' are two blogs long - each - so I am yet to post them. I hate editing - I need an editor!! D:

Anyway, onto Carnal Flower from Frederic Malle.

Hullo Thar ...

To whom it may concern:

This is me ...

I have tried posting my reviews on Basenotes only to have them disappear into the 'system' too many times so I've decided to change my tac and post blogs instead.
I was lurking for about a year before joining last February and only joined because I had a question to ask but I still haven't asked it - and it still

L'Oreal

by Kal on 22nd March 2010 at 01:28 AM
I've been out of the loop in all areas of life since my kids were born in 2006.

After a blog posted by Atlanta1 I discovered that L'Oreal had taken over YSL.
Having only recently learned that L'Oreal still tested on animals I was horrified to think that they would be doing the same with YSL perfumes and was glad that I no longer have any.

On further investigation I was even more horrified to find out that they also took over The Body Shop in 2006! Shocked! Appalled!
