Thank you very much! I only wish I could figure out how to post pictures/attachments?
I've always had an interest in fragrance, but these past two years I've begun taking a more scientific interest in breaking down various fragrances analytically. In this day and age of high performance liquid chromatography and advanced mass spectrometry, one may "rather" easily separate determine what and how much of a given component is in a fragrance! It's gotten to be incredibly expensive compiling different notes but it has been great training for my nose.
My real line of work is in precious metals, but I have some training back at university in organic synthesis. Some of the synthetics produced today are absurdly difficult to make in the lab, and very complex in their development.
What's even more fantastic about the science of smell is the very fact that different structural conformations have different odour profiles!
Oops, I just saw you already did! My bad! 'Hope to read you around!
That was just the most awesome description of ambergris on that Creed thread. Please consider posting it again in the Note Pad: Single Note Exploration section. I'm sure it would help a lot of folks out there exploring single notes!
