I'm in Hsinchu and this is my 6th and last year here and then I will retire to the states. No, I have no prior experience in the perfume business, but all my life I have paid close attention to smells -- I think it was compensation for having poor eyesight (which is now corrected but I basically didn't see anything clearly until I was six years old.) My mother was an avid gardener and a great cook so I was very early exposed to all kinds of smells.
I knew the smell of every flower and weed and tree and insect and fruit and vegetable and spice I encountered, and the skill transfers easily to fragrances. So, there you have it.
